Johnnie Eugene French, resident of Ponca City, passed Friday, April 11, 2014, in Denver, Colo. He was 66 years of age.

Johnnie was born Nov. 12, 1947, in Blackwell, the son of Lester and Mable French. He attended school in Ponca City and served his country in the Vietnam War. 

He was a member of United States Army; Company A, 9th Armored Replacement Battalion. He was married to Darlene Baker on Jan. 29, 1971 and to this union was born one daughter. He then married Mary Buntt on March 27, 2000 and became the step-father to three children. The couple enjoyed living in many places that included Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas, but in retirement they chose Ponca City as home. Mary preceded him in death on July 26, 2010. He was a plant foreman in mobile home construction. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and cabinet making.

He is survived by one daughter, Sheila Renee' French, of Ponca City; two step-sons, Rick and Mike Buntt, of Ponca City; two sisters, Wanda Emerson, of Diamond, Mo., and Velma Hamm, of Arkansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren, Tyler, Shawnte, Stephanie, Tabitha, Nicole and Joseph; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; one sister, Pat Geisler; one brother, Lester French Jr. and one step-daughter, Melissa Buntt.

A cremation committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, in Red Rock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601.
