LeRoy Fred Ward, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019. He was 82 years old.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, November 25th at
2pm at the Otoe Cemetery in Red Rock, OK with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
LeRoy was born on February 7, 1937 in Great Bend, Kansas to Frances “Cub” and
Gertrude (Hileman) Ward. LeRoy grew up in Red Rock and spent most of his
childhood there. During high school he forged his father’s signature and joined
the US Army serving in the 45th Infantry as a combat engineer and was also
trained as a field medic. After serving two tours in the Korean War he finished
high school while stationed in Japan. Upon returning to the US, he continued his
studies in engineering and agriculture.
LeRoy enjoyed dancing at pow wows when he was young and liked to go watch his
kids and grandkids dance later in life. LeRoy was a boxer in the Army and won
many of his bouts. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed
gardening, going on adventures, and watching sports with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie of Ponca City, many children and step
children, Rebecca Christensen and husband Clark of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Todd Bales
and wife Annette of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Ali Bales and husband Stephen Hague
of Seattle, Washington, Robert Bales and wife Kelly of Ponca City, Nicole Smith
and husband Bill of Ponca City, Toni Graham and husband Barton of Ponca City,
Donna Regino and husband Javier of Mt. Pleasant, Texas and Richard Ward and wife
Peggy of Montgomery, Alabama, grandchildren, Justin Ward, Michael Shelley,
Christopher Shelley, Marie Jones, Tyler Graham, Ashtin Graham, Annie Graham,
Emma Kate Graham, Colby Linder, Tristan Linder, Madison Linder, Chase Linder,
Noah Linder, Gavyn Bales, Torrance “Tootie” Bales, Tanner Carberry, Lilith
Hague, and Benjamin Bales, seven great-grandchildren, sister, Priscilla Ward and
numerous nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two step sons.
