Tony Francis

Tony Francis, resident of Red Rock, passed Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid. He was 67 years of age. 

Tony was born May 9, 1945 in Eufaula, Oklahoma, the son of John Francis and Minnie (Polk) Francis. He attended school at Haskell Institute High School in Lawrence, Kansas, graduating in 1963. He earned a Post High School Vocational Diploma from Haskell Institute in 1965. He then worked for six years at the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Spring, Colorado. 

Tony served his country in the United States Army from 1969 until 1971 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then furthered his education at Okmulgee Tech, earning honors in Culinary Arts in 1973. After his graduation from Culinary School he was recruited by the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City. This job gave him a firsthand experience in the finer art of cooking such as banquet meals and large or small parties. He also was employed at the exclusive Petroleum Club in Oklahoma City. He then was employed at Mercy Health Center as a lead dietary cook later employed at the Carter Seminary Indian School. Tony retired from working for the federal government 36 years in April 2012 due to health reasons. He fought his battle with multiple myeloma and renal failure. 

He was married to Linda Bassett on September 24, 1976 at Norman, Oklahoma. One of his biggest enjoyments was playing golf, especially with his friends that included Larry Crantz of Flandreau, South Dakota. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; one son, Dustin Francis, also of the home; one daughter, Tony Lynn Francis of Tulsa; step-daughter Angela Barnet of Ponca City; numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters; and a favorite nephew, Dewey Francis. 

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Mr. Francis home, located at 9251 County Road 220, Red Rock. Bro. Jimmy Kenner of the Otoe Baptist Church will preside over the service. Interment will be in the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. 

Casket bearers are Jon Haley, Ron Haley, Deswood Koshiway, Goodwin Bassett, George Koshiway and Eric Henry.
