Wilson Dale Atkins of Red Rock, OK passed through the gates of heaven on Monday, November 19, 2018. He was 64.

A traditional tribal service will be held on Thursday, November 22, 2018. The feast will begin at noon at the Otoe-Missouria Community Building with a giveaway to follow.

Tribal graveside services will proceed at the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery in Red Rock.

Pallbearers for the service will include his sons Waylon Atkins, Orrin Atkins, Nolan Atkins, and Terrence Atkins, as well as Josh McBlair and Bert McBlair. Honorary bearers will include Will Kirn, Vernon Tohee, Chris Hill, and Shawn Kirn.

Wilson was born on June 7, 1954 in Pawnee, OK the son of Baxter Davis Atkins and Virgie Rachel Wildbird. He attended Chilocco schools near Newkirk, Ok. HE worked in the construction industry as a laborer. He worked carefully to preserve the Otoe-Missouria language through songs. Over the years he had compiled an unrivalled library of cd’s, cassette tapes, and reel to reel recordings of tribal songs. Wilson grew up around tribal singing because his father was a well-known singer for the tribe. Wilson helped organized the language class and singing class for the tribal people. He is a lifelong member of the Otoe-Missouria tribe and the Pigeon clan.  

Wilson will be reunited in heaven with his parents, brothers Vernon, Gilbert, and Aaron, and two nephews Chris and James.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory Sally Yazzie, his son Waylon Atkins and wife Dianna of Wichita, KS, son Orrin Atkins of Midwest City, son Nolan Atkins of Red Rock, son Terrence Atkins of Norman, daughter Virginia Posey of Wyoming, and son Christopher Posey also of Wyoming; grandchildren: Raven Stanfield, Jamie Atkins, Madison Atkins, Jordan Atkins, Nolan Atkins, Jr., Merrick Atkins, Paulita Ann Day Spoonhunter, Adria Katherine Posey, Isaiah Keenan Posey, Enrique Chavez, Sr., Christopher Posey, Jr., Russellina Ridgley, Christian Posey, and Natasha Posey; brothers and sisters: Mickie, Blondie, Jackie, Lillie, and Vergil; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.
