Donald Ray Stangl, 79, of Perry, Oklahoma, was

1937 in Okarche, Oklahoma and died on June 28, 2016 in the Perry Memorial
Hospital.
Don graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Okarche, Class of 1956
and attended St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee. He married Anita Maul on June
14, 1958. They had four sons together, Frank, Timothy, Phillip and Jeffrey. Don
enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard and was honorably discharged on April 1,
1963.
On June 26, 1982, Don married Helen Phillips, Dexter in Perry, Oklahoma. They
met at the #1 Oklahoma Polka Club in Enid, Oklahoma. Don and Helen spent many

They also enjoyed traveling together; including cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska
and the Mississippi River, as well as several other trips to Montana, Oregon,
Missouri, Florida, the Grand Canyon and digging for diamonds and crystals in
Arkansas. Don especially enjoyed the several one-day “Mystery Tours” he and
Helen spent exploring Oklahoma. He loved desserts and candy, especially
chocolate candy. Don would much rather have dessert than a meal. He also enjoyed
gardening, tinkering around his shop and driving his tractor. He was a good,
kind man with a wonderful sense of humor and; who would help anyone in need.
Don was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, Oklahoma and
a member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He had worked as a driver
and heavy equipment operator for Smith Trucking and Basin Drilling Company in
Hennessey, Oklahoma. When Don and Helen moved to Perry, he was employed with
Exchange Bank & Trust. He retired in 2010 after 18 years of service with the
bank.
Don was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006 and fought hard through
various chemotherapy sessions, doctor’s visits and hospital stays.
Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus of St. Rose of Lima Catholic
