Funeral Mass for Helen Marie Nelson, 100, of Perry, will be 11 a.m. Saturday
at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Perry. The Rev. Tom Dowdell will
officiate.
Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry.
She was born May 26, 1906, in St. Louis to Peter J. and Kreszenz Burtscher
Schmaltz and died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Green Valley Nursing Home,
Perry.
She moved with her family to a farm west of Morrison. She attended Shiloh
school in Noble County through the fifth grade and attended St. Joseph’s
Catholic Academy in Perry through eighth grade. She attended Hills Business
College in Oklahoma City, graduating in the top five percent of her class.
She worked briefly in a legal office in Oklahoma City before returning to
Perry, where she worked for at Noble County Agriculture Adjustment Agency.
She retired in May 1976 from the Farm Service Agency after 39 years.
She married Willie M. Nelson Aug. 20, 1946. He died Sept. 20, 1970.
She was a life-long member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she
was a member of the altar society and prayer chain.
Surviving is one brother, G. P. Schmaltz of Morrison.
In addition to her husband, Willie, she was preceded in death by two
sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry,
OK, 73077, to Judith Karman Hospice or charity of donor’s choice.
