The funeral for David “Walter” Sams, 86, Perry, will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Lucien United Methodist Church. Burial will be in McGuire Cemetery, Lucien. Arrangements are by Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry.
He was born April 21, 1922, in Garber to Cloman Roscoe “Ross” and Alma “Blanch” Dibble Sams and died Friday, March 13, 2009, in Perry.
He graduated from Perry High School and attended welding school in California.
He served in the Air Force from Jan. 4, 1943, until Jan. 31, 1946. He achieved the rank of sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge at Camp Chafee, Ark.
He married Jo Ellen McAfee Feb. 1, 1947, in Perry. He worked as a welder at The Charles Machine Works before retiring.
He was a member of Lucien United Methodist Church, served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and was a community volunteer.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ellen; two sons, Kenton L. Sams of Edmond and Jeffrey L. Sams of Stillwater; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, five brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Lucien United Methodist Church.
