John Daniel Mack, 78, of Lucien passed peacefully from this
life on November 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Services have been
entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry and a service
celebrating his life will be held at 10am on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the
Lucien United Methodist Church with burial following at McGuire Cemetery in
Lucien. Public visitation will be held from 9am to 8pm on Thursday at Palmer
Marler Funeral Home 203 Fir Street in Perry.
John was born on January 18, 1937 in Bison, OK to Harry Herman and Rose Marie (Rinkemeyer)
Mack. He was raised and attended school in the Hayward community, graduating
from Hayward High School in 1955. In 1957, John married the love of his life,
Alice Marie Goe and they spent 58 amazing years by each other’s side. Following
high school, John began farming and he continued to farm land in Noble County as
both a career and hobby throughout his adult years. He raised cattle, wheat and
barley on his farm and also raised and broke horses for local “shodeo’s and play
days.”
In 1959, John joined the US Army Reserves. He attended basic training at Fort
Leonard Wood, MO and was also stationed in Fort Riley, KS. After several years
of service, John received an honorable discharge and returned to Noble County to
farm. John and his brother Lawrence Mack opened M&M Trenching in 1972 and John
spent the next 33 years trenching rural water lines, SW Bell Telephone lines,
and various other projects in Northern Oklahoma. John retired in 2005, which
gave him more time to spend with his family and to rebuild tractors and other
machinery.
John was a kind and generous man who was dedicated to his family, his church,
and his community. He was a longtime member of the Lucien United Methodist
Church where he served as the chair of the church’s building committee. He spent
countless hours remodeling the church and building the current kitchen
facilities. He was an active member of the Lucien Round-up Club and was a
charter member of the Lucien Fire Dept. He also served on the Covington-Douglas
School Board for over a decade.
John was also a talented carpenter and a skilled craftsman. He remodeled his
garage to serve as a suitable living quarters for his aging parents and also
assisted his children in building and remodeling their homes. John was a
committed family man who was happiest when he was surrounded by his kids and
grandkids. His orneriness and easy going demeanor made him easy to love and his
positive attitude endured during his courageous health battles. John Mack was a
selfless man who always put the needs of others before his own and he will truly
be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Harold Mack, James
Mack, Dorothy Horstman, and Judy Dick.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Alice Mack. Three
