Longtime
resident of Enid, Oklahoma, Sidney Lewis "Lou"
Meadors passed away in the early morning of
Saturday, July 2, 2022. He was 92.
Lou was a devoted husband, family man, hard worker
and good friend to many. He and his wife Pat
attended First United Methodist Church in Enid since
1970 and Pat preceded him in death in 2014.
Lou was born in Oxford, Georgia, on May 16, 1930, to
Thompson Delaware Meadors and Ora Alene Muse Meadors.
He was the youngest of 13 children and grew up
working in his father's general store. All of his
siblings preceded him in death.
Lou joined the Air Force following high school in
Covington and was privileged to do extensive travel
around the world. While stationed in Oklahoma, he
met a young widow on a blind date. Patricia Joan
Barr and her three young children Bill, Marlis and
Brenda eventually became Lou's family, and they
lived in Perry, Oklahoma, until they were
transferred to Itazuke Air Force Base in Fukuoka,
Japan. By that time, Pat and Lou had added son
Gregory Lee Meadors to the family. After a 3½-year
stint in Japan, Lou was transferred to Maxwell AFB
in Montgomery, Alabama. He and the family lived in
Prattville, Alabama, until he retired from service
and moved to Enid.
Lou was a recognized face around Enid, working at
the Oklahoma State Employment Office, volunteering
at Bass Hospital and First Methodist Church, and
participating in various organizations. He enjoyed
his hobbies of photography and woodworking and was
an especially familiar face at the golf course. He
walked and carried his clubs well into his 80's,
when he finally allowed himself the use of a pull
cart.
Lou loved life, and his brand of humor may have been
the origin of the Dad joke. He was at least an early
adopter. He and Pat enjoyed traveling after they
became "Empty Nesters". They spent time with family,
their eight grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. They also had a large group of
extended "grandchildren" from church, watching the
kids grow up from toddlers to young adults.
Lou is survived by son Greg (Julie Griffin) Meadors
of Oak Park, Illinois; stepson Bill (Cheryl) Barr of
Arvada, Colorado; stepdaughter Marlis (Patrick)
McDowell of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter Brenda
Newsom of Gallatin, Tennessee; and honorary daughter
Janice (John) Cottle of Enid.
Lou was a hugger and enjoyed giving and receiving
hugs with his many friends. He often commented that
he wanted to live to 100, but we know he is happy to
be in the presence of God and greeted with hugs from
Mom and other loved ones that he has missed so much.
Visitation is Wednesday July, 6, 2022, from 5:00 -
7:00 p.m. at Ladusau Evans, 2800 N. Van Buren.
Service is 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at
First United Methodist Church, 401 W Randolph.
Military honors will be provided by the United
States Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations
to Circle of Care (circleofcare.org), with Ladusau-Evans
Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
Condolences may be made and services viewed online

Patricia Joan Pruett Barr Meadors was born November 13, 1930, and the world brightened. On Sunday evening, May 11, 2014, a day for honoring mothers, she left this world too soon.
Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Mary Lucille and Francis Gordon Pruett, she grew up in Carlyle, Illinois. An only child, Pat and her mother moved to Perry, Oklahoma, where she attended junior high and high school before moving to Tulsa to attend business school. An only child, Pat and her mother moved to Perry, Oklahoma, where she attended junior high and high school before moving to Tulsa to attend business school. Returning to Perry, she married Billy Alfred Barr and had three children, Bill Grant, Marlis and Brenda. Bill preceded her in death in an oil field accident, leaving her a young widow. On August 19, 1958, Pat started the next journey of her life when she met Lou Meadors on a blind date. Pat and Lou married in November 21, 1958, and, in 1960, Gregory Lee was born. Through Lou’s military service, the family moved to Itazuki Air Force Base in Fukuoka, Japan, to Prattville, Alabama, and then finally to Enid, Oklahoma. Pat worked for Pillsbury in the business office before retiring after 16 years so she could travel with Lou across the country and Europe. Pat and Lou have been members of First United Methodist Church of Enid for 44 years. An active member, Pat also was a genuine friend, reaching out to the new families, kids and anyone attending church by themselves. Many were treated to her “friendship” bread, which she baked and delivered along with a hug to about everyone.
Pat was loved and cherished by her partner in life, Lou; her children, Bill Grant Barr and wife Cheryl, Marlis and husband Pat McDowell, Brenda Newsom, Greg Meadors and wife Julie Griffin; and “added” daughters Earline Cockrum, Becky Yasumoto, Janice and John Cottle and family. She was also blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Laurell and Kevin Ellis and family, Rose and Lindsey Kuhn, Caroline and Ben Barajas, Lisa and Joshua Sagaser and family, Alex and Chanteal McDowell and family, Emma Newsom and fiancé Jamie Holland, Griffin and Patricia LeeAnne Meadors, niece and nephew Nancy Matheny and Mike and Cindy Matheny and families. Her list of family also includes many “adopted” families and couples from church and life, her “Giggle Buddies” and the “Braum’s Babes.”
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Wayne Roberts, first husband Bill Barr and son in law Paul Newsom.
Because of her love of children, memorials can be made to the United Methodist Circle of Care through the First United Methodist Church in Enid with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodians of the funds.
A Celebration of Life service for Patricia "Pat" Joan Pruett Barr Meadors age 83 of Enid will be 11:00 am Monday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Southall officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Grace Hill Cemetery Perry, OK. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at funeral home from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Sunday, May 18, 2014.
