Edward Leslie (Ed) Manley, 88, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday morning September 13, 2016, after an extended illness, at Perry Memorial Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trout Funeral Home of Perry, 1408 North 7th St. The Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 16th at the Billings Christian Church with Rev. Frank Tepe officiating.

Interment will follow at the Billings Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Ed was born on October 31, 1927, in the oil field near Covington, OK to Edward Leola and Beta Viola (Clark) Manley. He attended Keystone, a one-room schoolhouse, Sinclair Oil Field School, and Billings Public Schools. Ed was called to serve his country in 1946 and enlisted in the Army. He received the World War II War Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation of Japan Medal. Upon his discharge from the service in May of 1948, on his first day home, Jean Sparks came by his family home in Billings to inquire about his wellbeing and when he might be returning home. To her surprise he was already there. Jean and Ed were engaged in September of 1948, when Jean came to visit Ed in the oil field of Wyoming. They were married December 5, 1948, in Worland, Wyoming. In May of 1949, they returned to Oklahoma and established their first home west of Billings. They then moved east of Marland where they purchased 80 acres. In 1962, they leased a school quarter west of Marland. In 1968, they purchased a 120 acre farm east of Billings, where they lived until they retired in 2011 and moved to Perry. Ed had a variety of talents that he demonstrated in his various occupations of farming, raising polled Hereford cattle, oil field, and business owner. The occupation that he enjoyed the most and was known for was Manley Dozer Service.

One of the things that Ed regretted was that he never completed his high school education, due to the fact that his country called him to service. In a ceremony at the Billings Christian Church in 2003, the Superintendent of the Billings Public Schools, Mark Moore, presented Ed with his high school diploma. He had a great love for trying to fix things, some things he fixed and some things he made worse after trying. He loved to read, fish, play the guitar and listen to old country music. His life was complete, happy and fulfilled with his years of being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married his true love, raised a beautiful family and lived a full and fruitful life.

Ed was survived by his wife, Jean of the home, two daughters: Barbara Pemberton and her husband Donal of Billings, Donna Parrish and her husband Randy of Perry; four grandchildren: Leslie Box and her husband Brandon of Perry, Jay Pemberton and his wife Amy of Buffalo, Darin Pemberton and his wife Karma of Billings, and Beth Mann and her husband Jared of Moore. He was also survived by five great grandchildren Maston Box, Randi Box, Daygen Pemberton, Everett Mann and Evelyn Mann. Two siblings, Brice Manley of Duncan and Lela Ann Freiling and her husband Kenneth of Devol, and many nieces, nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Hardie Eugene Manley and a nephew Mark Ray Manley.

In lieu of flowers memorials and contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Christian Church of Billings in care of Trout Funeral Home, 1408 North 7th St, Perry, OK 73077.
