John Clinton Kingery was born October 17, 1947 in Enid, OK to Martin and Ellen Kingery of Billings, OK. Surrounded by his loving family, John passed away Friday March 16, 2018 at his home in Guthrie, OK.
John attended school in Billings, graduating in 1965. He served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1970 and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. John graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976 and obtained his Master of Education degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
John married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Jean Morris, on June 2, 1967. The family made homes in Seiling, OK, and Fredonia KS, before retiring in Guthrie.
John and Peggy have three children: Michael David Kingery and wife Misty of Lahoma, OK, Jay Clinton Kingery and wife Shelly of Yukon, OK and Daughter Melissa Dawn Larson and husband Gary of Neodesha, KS. John was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. John is survived by one sister, Kay Kingery Davis, and her husband Dick of Cashion, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Ellen Kingery and wife Peggy Kingery.
John was an Oklahoma High School Girls Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame inductee and an All-State girls basketball coach. He retired from coaching in Seiling in May 1990 and finished his career as a school administrator.
John longed to be reunited with his beautiful bride and his parents. His trust in Jesus Christ sustained him and his faithfulness was an inspiration to his family and friends. Today, he sits with his Heavenly Father.
Closed casket visitation will be held at Smith and Gallo Funeral home in Guthrie on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The family will not be present at this time.
Friends are invited to visit the family from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Saturday March 24, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Guthrie with services following at 1:00 pm.
Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Billings immediately following the service. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
John and Peggy were blessed with many caring friends who became like family. The Kingerys appreciate the outpouring of love and support for John during his illness. Your memories, thoughts and prayers serve as a tribute to the man he was and the life he lived.
