Sheldon George Bellmon of Billings, OK, has passed away. He was 97 years young.

Sheldon George Bellmon was born in Billings on March 19, 1924, the son of George Delbert and Edith Caskey Bellmon. He attended Glenrose rural school and graduated from Billings High School in 1941. After graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps in the 8th Tank Battalion during World War II. He enlisted August of 1943 and served a total of eight years. He fought in the battle to capture Okinawa from April 1, 1945, to June 27, 1945. He also participated in the landing of tanks and occupation of the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. On May 11, 1945, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic acts of bravery during his service in Okinawa, Japan. After the war he moved to North Carolina and later returned to Oklahoma to help his brother, Henry when he ran for governor of Oklahoma in 1962.

George was a farmer and rancher at heart. After his military service, George enrolled at Oklahoma A&M (OSU) College where he earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture.

He married the love of his life, Floretta Reichert, on May 15, 1971. They made their home east of Billings on the ranch. They had many happy years together until her death. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Floretta, and 12 brothers and sisters.

George leaves behind to mourn his loss, his daughters Marleta London and Lavinda Holcomb, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services were held for George at the Billings Union Cemetery south of Billings, OK, 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
