ENID — Funeral service for Robert J. Walsh, age 78, will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:00 am at St Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Father Joseph Irwin will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Billings, OK. Rosary will be this evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Robert was born October 7, 1932 in Enid, OK to Roland Jack and Susie Schurch Walsh and died July 26, 2011 at the Greenbrier Skilled Nursing Unit.

On November 26, 1955 he married Mary Lou Dysart. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. He farmed at Billings on the Walsh homestead from 1955-1959 and was a custom cutter, cutting wheat north to Nebraska. He was the First Deputy Garfield County Assessor from 1960 to 1961. He owned and operated Abstract & Title Co. along with his wife Mary Lou from 1962-1969. He graduated from Enid High School in 1950. He attended Phillips University from 1969-1973, receiving his B.S. in Education, and received his Masters Degree in Education in 1978. He was a teacher and principal for the North Enid and Waukomis Public Schools retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Exchange Club, Garfield County Retired Teachers, OEA, OSTA, NEA, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans Association and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; son, Timothy Walsh of Plainview, TX; brother, Roland Walsh and wife Millie of Mills River, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
