Ruth Richards passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the age of 98. Ruth was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1922 in Haywood, Oklahoma, her parents were Walter and Dolly Dement. She attended school in Haywood.
When in her teen years the family moved to California. There she met and married James Richards in January of 1945 and they returned to Pawnee, Oklahoma and to this union two sons were born, Larry and James Richards.
While in Pawnee Ruth began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone. After 13 years, they moved to Muskogee. Ruth continued working with SWB and James was a barber. In 1971, they moved to Wainwright, OK and later retired.
She will be remembered for her great kindness and love for all those around her. She was an active member of the Wainwright Community Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; her brother, Leo Dement and her sisters, Viva McBride, Ruby Jobe, Opal Maxwell, and Doris Womack.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Larry and James Richards of Wainwright, OK; her sister, Marie Corley and her brother Lloyd Dement. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Richards, Alan Richards, Sabrina Burns, Steve Rocco and Meghan Fausett; along with several great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family.
Viewing will be from 10AM-4PM on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Ruth will be held at 1PM on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Wainwright First Baptist Church with Reverend Sherman Dix officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Middleton Chapel Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Ronnie Reece, Jerry Pippin, Burr Myers, Stetson Richards, Alan Richards, and Brian Richards will serve as Casket Bearers.

James Edward Richards, 82, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct 20, 2007. James was born August 15, 1925 to WA (Bill) and Goldie (Ballew) Richards near Glencoe, OK where he received his education until he was 16 years of age.
In 1942 he went to California where he met and then married Ruth Dement. He and his loving wife have been married for 62 years. They returned to Oklahoma in 1945 and lived in Pawnee for 13 years.
In 1958 he became a barber and moved to Muskogee where he barbered for 15 years. During those 15 years, some of his locations he barbered were the Owl, Broadway, and Provincial Barber Shops. After retiring, he moved to Wainwright where he raise his cattle and enjoyed his family. He loved horses and roping. He taught many young men how to rope including his sons and grandsons. James was a faithful member of the Wainwright Community Church and will be missed greatly by his brothers and sisters in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Opal Robinson, and Edna Rossander; and two brothers, Ray and Carl Richards.
Survivors include his loving wife Ruth, of the home; two sons, Larry and Jim Richards both Of Wainwright; three grandsons, Steve Rocco of Ely, Nevada, Alan and Brian Richards both of Oktaha; two grand daughters, Sabrina Burns of Hanna, and Meghan Fausett of Wainwright; five great grand children; one sister, Billie Carey of Oklahoma City, and one brother, Bud and his wife Joy Richards of Pawnee.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Wainwright Community Church with Rev. Marion Graves officiating. Casker bearers will be Norman Cole, Jerry Pippin, Bill Hubler, Burr Myers, Connie Harris, and Mike Hogner. Honorary cakset bearers will be Bynum Duvall, Darrel Zollars, Harold Guthrie, Darrel Kennedy, Robert Parker, and Bill Epperson.
Interment will follow the funeral services in the Middleton Chapel Cemetery.
The Richards family has asked in lieu if flowers donations be made to the Wainwright Community Church Building Fund, PO Box 124, Wainwright, OK 74468.
