Reba Evelyn (Smith) Sanders
March 25, 1914 ~ February 18, 2009

Reba Evelyn Sanders passed away on February 18, 2009 at Eastgate Village Nursing Home.

She was born to Thomas Carodine Smith and Eliza Rachel (Lewis) Smith on March 25, 1914 in Booth, Arkansas.

Reba attended school in Boothe and Mansfield, Arkansas. Her mother died when Reba was only four years old. Her father remarried and the family later relocated to Bixby, Oklahoma, where she met and married Cecil Clyde Marcum. They had a son, Donnie Clyde Marcum. After that marriage ended, she and her step-sister, Cosma Juanita Downing, owned and operated a diner in Bixby. It was in that diner where she met John Hiram Sanders. They married on March 30, 1941 and relocated to Muskogee, Ok.

Reba was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She loved learning new things and excelled at every new thing she tried. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing. She was often asked to sing at social functions when she was young and later sang with a band. Reba was kind-hearted and generous, always putting other’s needs above her own. She was witty and fun-loving and everyone enjoyed being in her company. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Reba was a member of West Side Church of Christ.

Reba was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Donnie Clyde Marcum and her brother, Cecil Jackson Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, William Harris Sanders and wife, Gay Lynne of Muskogee; daughter, Johnnie Sue Elrod and husband, Joel of Muskogee; daughter, Jo Ann Cardwell of Tulsa; stepson, John Hiram Sanders, Jr. and wife, Doris of Miami, Ok; stepdaughter, Donna Colleen Havens of Milan, MO; six grandchildren: William Brent Sanders, Joel Brett Elrod, Andrea Leigh (Elrod) Menie, William Joseph Elrod, Jason Wade Cantwell, all of Muskogee and Tammy Epperson of Miami, OK; sister-in-law, Barbara Leota Smith; three nieces; numero us great grandchildren, other extended family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Reba will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Jeremy Sprouse officiating.

Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery with Brent Sanders, Brett Elrod, Joseph Elrod, and Jason Cantwell serving as pallbearers.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements.
