Thelma H. Mingo passed from this life to her eternal home in heaven on Saturday, March 20, 2004. Thelma was born Elsie Thelma Harris on January 6, 1906 in Indian Territory, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Harris. They were pioneer residents of Oklahoma coming to this area from Alabama.
Thelma graduated from the old Central High School and went on to further her education at NSU. She married the late Joseph J. Mingo on February 10, 1935 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She worked for Dr. Odom as office manager before her retirement in 1979. Thelma was involved in Noon Pilot Club, the Knife and Fork Club and MRMC Women's Auxiliary. She volunteered her time unselfishly at the Five Civilized Museum, Ataloa Lodge, Bacone College, Thomas Foreman Home, Muskogee Animal Shelter and MRMC.
Thelma was a life long member of the First Baptist Church where she was
active in the choir for over 60 years, and the children's Bible classes as a
teacher and volunteer. She loved to travel and help others until her health
failed her.
She is survived by a niece Merrilyn Morrow of Charleston, South
Carolina; nephew Judson Zellmer of Dallas, Texas, and her guardian Susan Siner
and husband Dennis of Muskogee. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph
Mingo, her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Luther Harris, and a sister Frankie
Harris.
A funeral service for Mrs. Mingo will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Park Mausoleum with Reverend Rex Wilkinson officiating.
Those who wish may donate to the Five Civilized Tribes Museum Building Fund, 1019 Honor Heights Dr., Muskogee, OK 74401.
The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements.
