Ruth (Chisholm) Sims

October 13, 1913 ~ January 14, 2008

Ruth Chisholm Sims, 94, of Muskogee, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at Eastgate Village Retirement Center. She was born October 13, 1913 to George and Minerva (Williams) Chisholm in Hanna, Oklahoma where she grew up and attended school. Ruth graduated from high school at Haskell Institute Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas.

She worked at Camp Gruber through the 1930s. In 1961, she began working at Muskogee General Hospital as a nurses’ aide until her retirement in 1978. After retirement she became a caregiver to the elderly and children.

Ruth was preceded in death by one sister, Estalene Chisholm and two brothers, Tom Chisholm and Cecil Chisholm.

She is survived by one son, Don Sims of Muskogee; daughter, Carol Reed of Muskogee; two grandsons, Donald Levi Sims of Ft. Gibson and Anthony Clinton Ferguson of Muskogee; three great-grandchildren, brother Dan Chisholm of Austin, TX; three sisters, Loraine Hammontree of Dustin, OK, Leona Hale of Morris and Georgeanne Chisholm of Henryetta, OK and two dear friends, Daisy Campassi and Juanita Kilgore, both of Muskogee.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Greenhill Cemetery. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
