March 29, 1939 ~ January 17, 2017

Leon Miller age 77 of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed this life on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Cornerstone Hospital of Muskogee while surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Leon was born on March 29, 1939, in Wagoner, Oklahoma to John H. Miller and Thelma (Sinclair) Miller.

After graduating high school, Leon met his lifetime companion, Peggy Joe (Brown) and they were married on September 28, 1957, in Stigler, Oklahoma. Leon continued his education where he worked to receive his Master's Degree at Northeastern State College. After receiving his Degree in Education, Leon continued as an educator and taught, coached basketball and baseball at schools such as Climax Springs in Missouri, Boynton, Oklahoma, Taft, Oklahoma, Edison Elementary in Muskogee and his last position was with the Okay School System where he spent his final 17 years in the school system.

Throughout his lifetime, Leon was a well-known man with a special kindness to everyone who knew him. Some of the hobbies he enjoyed was when he could go coon hunting with his buddies. He liked to fish, go hunting, working in the garden and enjoying all the family gatherings that included both his regular and extended family. Leon never missed any of his grandkid's sports.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Miller. Six brothers, Scotty, Mickey, Larry, Perry, Frank and Terry Miller. Five sisters, Lillian Lykins, Jeanette Gautney, Georgia Kaye Brown, Crystal Mae Miller and Charlene Neal.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Miller of the home. Two sons, Abner Miller and wife Terri of Muskogee and John Miller and wife Tiffany of Muskogee. Two sisters, Leona Wilson and Cinda Wilkey of Wagoner. One Brother, Jerry Miller of Wagoner. Ten grandchildren, Mitchell Miller and wife Ashley, Michael Miller and wife Brook, Jolie Moore, Railey and Jake Cox, Jesse Allen, Gina Gugello, Wendy Gugello, Mike Gugello and Lindsey Allen. Five Great grandchildren, Jersey Miller, London Miller, Teagan Miller, Kennedy Miller and Cyle Gugello. Others who Leon considered to be his adopted children were Rusty, Randy and Scottie Pofhal, Kathy Rock and Randall B. Weatherman.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Brown, Jason Gautney, Sean Lykins, George Lykins, Jr, Austin Miller, Randall B. Weatherman, Dustin Williams and Brian Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Downing, Charles Hughes, Ed Lasater, Bob Rolland, Gene Wilson, Josh Wilson, Joe Wofford, his former students and all of his coon hunting buddies.

Viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2017, at Shipman's Muskogee Cremation & Funeral Service 1325 N. York Street Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the York Street Christian Church located at 1125 S. York Street in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Peggy Joe Miller, age 86, passed from this life peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at St. Francis Health Systems in Muskogee, OK. She was born on September 13, 1936 in Muskogee, OK to Alvin Leo Brown and Mildred Fern Malan Brown. On September 28, 1957, she married her beloved husband Leon Miller, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Peggy graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1955. She worked as an Optician for American Optical for 15 years.

Peggy loved her family and friends and enjoyed being with them more than anything else. Her language of love was cooking and she would host up to 100 or more people at a time, which often included entire ball teams. Peggy Joe was the biggest fan of her sons, grandkids and great grandkids and she rarely missed any of their events. She also loved sewing, embroidery and traveling with Steve, Debbie and Tina on the Pineapple Whip concession stand.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Alvin Brown, Fern & John Hammons, her husband; Leon, brothers Dewey Hammons, Michael Hammons and his wife Susie, and sister in law Mary Sue Brown.

She leaves behind her children; Abner Miller and wife Terri of Muskogee, OK, John Miller and wife Tiffany of Muskogee, OK, Brother Phillip Brown of Tulsa, OK, sister Johnna Downing and husband Mark of Muskogee, OK, grandchildren; Mitchell Miller and wife Ashley of Muskogee, OK, Michael Miller of Verdigris, OK, Railey Eastwood of Tahlequah, OK, Jolie Moore of Muskogee, OK, Jesse Allen of Muskogee, OK, Lindsey Parnell and husband Major of Tahlequah, OK, Michael, Wendy Jo and Gina Marie Gugello of Muskogee, OK, great-grandchildren; Jersey & London Miller, Ian, Ava & Mia Scott, Teagan & Kennedy Miller, Myles Parnell, Cyle Gugello, Blake & Jaelnn Cooper, all of Muskogee, OK, brothers in law Jerry Miller and wife Danna, Gene Wilson, Jim Gautney and wife Christy, Carlos Brown and wife Joyce, sisters in law Cinda Wilkey and husband Pepper, and Margie Hammons-Civale, all of her special nieces and nephews and very special friend Judy Nelson. Others who Peggy considered to be her adopted children are Rusty, Randy and Scottie Pofhal, Randall B. Weatherman and many other family members & friends.

We would like to thank her Pleasant Valley family for all the love and care she received, while she was with them.
Visitation will be at Muskogee Shipman Cremation & Funeral Service, 1325 N. York St., from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, March 31.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1 at York Street Christian Church, 1125 S. York St. Burial will be at a later day.

Officiating her service will be Pastor David Yarbrough and Eulogy will be by Carla K. Carey.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Miller, Michael Miller, Barry Brown, Bret Brown, Jon Michael Hammons, Brad Downing & Jeremy Downing.
