November 20, 1943 ~ July 16, 2009

Funeral services for Mike Compassi will be conducted by Pastor Gary Woodson on Monday, July 20, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Shipman Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner, OK. Burial will be held at the Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee. Serving as pallbearers are Cliff Osburn, Jerry Schoonover, Gerald Crane, Joe Russell, Gary Hake and Pete Schrader.

Michael Griffin Compassi was born on November 20, 1943 in Cushing, OK. After a courageous battle with cancer, he went to be with his Lord on July 16, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was raised in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee Central high School. He enjoyed a full and happy childhood. His parents ran a neighborhood grocery store. He loved the times he spent with all his cousins and always had many friends.

After graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving two years and upon the death of his mother, Mike was discharged from the Air Force in order to help his father. It was then that he began his career with the Oklahoma State Department of Transportation, from which he retired in December, 1994.

Most of his adult life was spent living in Wagoner, OK. Mike was a Christian for over 40 years and attended the Crossroads Community Church. His other great loves were his hobbies of bowling and fishing. He thoroughly loved bowling in the “senior leagues” and loved his “bowling buddies” like family.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Virginia Compassi; his birth mother, Hazel Cox; siblings James McConaha, Will Dean, Maxine Terrel, Paula Macha, several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and one precious grandchild, Brooklynn Young.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Janie; sons Stacey Young and his wife Michelle, of Wagoner, Michael Compassi Jr. and his wife Barbara of Pryor, Randy Compassi of Kermit, West Virginia and Scott Compassi and his wife Charity of Wagoner. Daughter; Starla Young of Wagoner. Granddaughters; Aubri Thompson, Shawna, Skyla, Destiny and Sierra Compassi. Grandsons; Bobby Baker and wife Marsha, Hunter Young and Travis Compassi. Sisters; Linda Maravich and husband Milan of Kingston, OK and Barbara McCoy and husband Rick of Stillwater. One brother; George Dean of Texas, special aunt Daisy Compassi of Muskogee of Muskogee. Cousins; Pat Gatti, Tony and Richard Compassi, Cathey Burris and husband David, Rosanna Mose and husband John as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws; Helen Anderson and husband Hampton and Sandy Price of Rogers, AR and brother-in-law; Bobby Holloway of Muskogee and many dear friends.
