Arthur John Sims, 64, of Eufaula, passed from this life early Monday morning, January 14, 2008 at his home after an extended illness. Art was born on October 11, 1943 in Elgin, OK to Walter A. and Theresa (Conway) Sims.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country in the US Army, and worked as a finance manager for Eufaula Ford for many years.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Debbie, sister Geneva Graham, brother Sonny Sims, and a son Chris Gaskins.
Survivors include daughters Sherry and her husband Jimmy Phillips of Olathe, KS, and Sammi Koss of Eufaula; sons, Gary Miner and Marissa McElmurry of Muskogee, Sonny and Laney Akers of Idabel, sister Barbara and Bill Gibson of Moore; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Art Sims will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Westside Freewill Baptist Church in Eufaula officiated by Rev. Ronnie Drake. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Casketbearers will be Hank Dopler, Bill Gibson, Mekalib Fairchilds, Joe Sims, Ebbon McElmurry, and Jimmy Phillips. Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Post #15, Muskogee, OK.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hampton Mortuary, Checotah, OK 918-473-6821.
