Our loving, gracious, and funny husband and dad, Matthew Adam Paul Schumacher, passed away at age 82 after a short illness in Oklahoma City.
Matt was born in Tulsa in 1933, and graduated from Cascia Hall High School in 1951. He attended the University of Notre Dame for three years before graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Finance in 1958. Matt served in the Army for two years in 1955-56 and was stationed in Korea.
Matt married the love of his life, Leola Corley, in 1957. Matt worked as a commodities broker and bank examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Houston, Texas, in 1958-62 before returning to Oklahoma.
Matt continued to work for the OCC in Oklahoma City and then for Merrill Lynch as a stock and commodities broker. In 1972, Matt became President of the American Bank of Oklahoma in Pryor, OK, and in 1975 President of the Bank of Commerce in Chouteau, OK. When he was 48, Matt began law school and graduated with his J.D. degree from the Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1983. Matt practiced law in Muskogee and was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. Matt dearly loved his family and all things OSU.
He loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a gracious, kind and generous man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Matt is predeceased by his parents Frank Joseph and Juliana Osond Schumacher, his sister Mary Ann Schumacher Burke, his brothers Frank Joseph Jr., Joseph Osond Edward, and John Anthony Matthew Schumacher.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Leola Corley Schumacher, his son Matthew Adam Paul Schumacher II and daughter-in-law Carla Schumacher, Richmond, Virginia; his daughter, Lisa Schumacher Barkley, San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren Eric Matthew, Allison Marie and Leah Elizabeth Schumacher, Richmond, Virginia; his sisters-in-law Mary Ann (M.A.) Schumacher, Sue Fay Corley Amy (Don) and Troylene Corley Thayer; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at
Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK 73003.
