Victor E. Leonard, 91, passed way Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1914 to W. Edward Leonard and Vandy Catherine Ledbetter in Valliant, OK. Victor grew up in Valliant and graduated high school in 1932 from Hugo high school. He attended Oklahoma A&M where he majored in fine arts. Victor spent some time working in Tulsa before serving in the Navy during WWII. He enjoyed the arts such as painting scenery with oil and he became an accomplished musician. He enjoyed cats tremendously. In 1976 he retired from the V.A. Medical Center as a medical administration assistant. He worked at the V.A. for over 29 years. Victor was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and for several years he volunteered his piano talents at the V.A. Medical Center for church services.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Effie Lewis, Willie Turley, Maude Lewis, three brothers; W. Ed Leonard Jr., Claude Leonard, Walter Leonard, one niece and four nephews. He is survived by nieces Patsy Elmore and her husband Larry of Muskogee, Marie Turlet of Tulsa and Myrrah Lewis of Idabel; nephews Dr. Joe Leonard and his wife Clinette of Edmond, Walter Leonard Jr. of Dallas, sister-in-law Pat Leonard of Hugo, one cousin Carl Ledbetter of Portersville, CA, and several great nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Leonard will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Gerald Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be the great nephews.
Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
