Mable Iola (Brown) Fuller

Mable Iola (Brown) Fuller
October 24, 1925 ~ Nov. 27, 2021

Mable Iola Brown Fuller lived a full and eventful 96 years. On Nov. 27, 2021, in Oxnard, CA, she left this world and went to a better place.

Her family were with her at her bedside as she made her transition.

After her mother passed away in 1983 at the age of ninety-six, Mable made it clear to all, that like her mother, she was intent on seeing her own 96th birthday. And she did indeed live to her 96th birthday. Her 96th birthday was October 24, 2021.

She was the last born of four girls and three boys born to Cora Aritha Brown and Frank Henry Brown.

Mable loved to talk about her Mama and Papa and her life growing up in rural Summit, Oklahoma. From the stories she, her parents and her siblings told she was kind of a rascal.

For her early education, she attended Dubois elementary in Summit and Douglas elementary in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her high school years were spent at Manual Training High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Then she went on to attend Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.

Mable was proud to be born in Summit, OK, and until the end, loved to reminisce about the school days in Muskogee and college days when would wear her ‘Country Girl’ badge with honor. She would tell you, “I’m from Summit!”

Mable was fortunate enough to live long enough to enjoy several careers. And she worked and enjoyed working, right up to her ninety second year. Yes, I said ninety second year.

She trained as a tailor in trade school and worked for a time as an assistant to a tailor in Muskogee. She also worked for a clothing manufacturer, sewing clothes in Kansas City.

She also trained as a secretary and executive secretary and assistant, and for much of her career she worked in that capacity.

Amongst her passions, she loved to sing and throughout her life, she sang in her Church choir. It was also common for Mable to quietly sing or hum to herself.

She was humorous and loved to crack jokes. She liked to say, “You can ask me my age, and I will tell you; don’t ask me my weight, cause I won’t tell you, or if I do, I might lie!”

She enjoyed playing Solitaire and Checkers, and she bowled until her knees began to limit that activity.

She enjoyed traveling and would think nothing of jumping in her car and driving from Kansas City, Missouri to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a day trip. She took a couple of trips to the Bahamas; in 1996 she traveled with her son to Kenya, East Africa for three weeks, to attend his wedding.

Whatever she did, her Christian faith served as a guide and a comfort throughout her life.

Mable was often described as an extraordinarily strong, determined woman. And she did live life as if she were on a mission.

She was a wonderful mother to Willie Garfield Brown and Charles Henry Fuller.

Mable has so many who love her including her grandchildren: Otieno Jafri Okatch (Christina Buth Okatch), Malaika Amosi Briles (Jason Briles), Charles Henry Fuller II (Daun Collins), Kevin Yusef, D. Kilea, and Maatimu Brown. Her great-grandchildren: Morgan Okatch, Tatyana Okatch, Kanaan Okatch, Maxwell Briles, Ali Briles & Jacoby Briles, Kierra Davis, Khalil Fuller, Kevon Davis, Desmond Fuller, Corinthius Fuller, Dorsey Gines & Kaleo Fuller. Her daughters-in-law: Roseline Brown, Linda Okatch Mungayaka, Regina Thomas & Tiffany Cannady-Thomas. And many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Henry Brown and Cora Aritha Brown. Six siblings, Charles Jacob “Jake” Brown, Clara Brown, Edward Garfield Brown, Opal Brown, Pearl Brown and Willie Frank Brown, and her son Charles Henry Fuller.

From her incredible stories to her indomitable spirit, Mable Fuller will be missed.

May she now Rest in Peace.

Mable Iola (Brown) Fuller
October 24, 1925 ~ Nov. 27, 2021 | Age 96

Mable Iola Brown Fuller, 96, passed away on Nov. 27, 2021, in Oxnard, CA.

From family to friends to the compassionate medical professionals who only met her recently, Mable was often described as a very strong, determined woman. The cherished last-born child of Cora Aritha Brown and Frank Henry Brown had previously made it clear that like her mother, she was intent on seeing her 96th birthday. She made it.

She herself was a wonderful mother to Willie Garfield Brown and Charles Henry Fuller. Mable was proud to be born in Summit, OK, and until the end, loved to reminisce about the school days in Muskogee, OK, when would wear her 'Country Girl' badge with honor. Mable would later attend Langston University in Langston, OK. Amongst her passions, singing was relished and throughout her life, she sang in her Church choir. It was also common for Mable to quietly sing or hum to herself. As she liked to say, she turned the same age as her waist size over and over again; in those magical years, our Country Girl was a waitress, a seamstress, a secretary, an administrative assistant, a foster grandmother, and a quick-thinking Checkers player who almost always won. Whatever she did, her Christian faith served as a guide and a comfort and in her later years, so did her beloved cane. It brought her joy to be able to somehow move at light speed to her favorite food, "burnt" turkey bacon.

Longer than the list of games she ever won, Mable has so many who love her including her grandchildren: Otieno Jafri Okatch (Christina Buth Okatch), Malaika Amosi Briles (Jason Briles), Charles Henry Fuller II (Daun Collins), Kevin Yusef, D. Kilea and Maatimu Brown. Her great-grandchildren: Morgan, Tatyana & Kanaan Okatch, Maxwell, Ali & Jacoby Briles, Kierra & Kevon Davis, Desmond, Corinthius, Khalil & Kaleo Fuller, and Dorsey Gines. Her daughters-in-law: Roseline Brown, Linda Okatch Mungayaka, Regina Thompson, and Tiffany Cannady-Thomas. And many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Henry Brown and Cora Aritha Brown. Six siblings, Charles Jacob "Jake" Brown, Clara Brown, Edward Garfield Brown, Opal Brown, Pearl Brown, and Willie Frank Brown. And her son Charles Henry Fuller.

From her incredible stories to her indomitable spirit, Mable Fuller will be missed. Thank you for being a part of her life. May she now Rest in Peace.
