Funeral services for Charles Richard "Dick" Ashwood, 84, of Muskogee will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Ashwood officiating. His grandsons, Jeff Patterson, Justin O’Neal, Corey Todd, Dylan Hodges, Levi Patterson, and Austin Patterson will be honoring him as pallbearers. Grandson, Matthew Ashwood Jr., and granddaughter, Haley Ashwood will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Brushy Mountain Cemetery.
Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Charles Richard “Dick” Ashwood went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 16, 2012. Charles, better known as Dick, was a lifelong resident of Muskogee. Born to Harry M. and Mary Ellis Ashwood on June 30, 1927, he lived his entire life on his family dairy farm south of town. He graduated Muskogee Central High in 1946.
Dick held many jobs during his life. Growing up and working the family dairy, then taking over and running it until 1976, after which he went to work at Owens Brockway Glass until he retired in 1990. Then he started his favorite job as a door greeter at Wal-Mart where he was able to see and visit old friends and make many new ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Betty Ann Malan Ashwood of the home; son, Pat Patterson and wife Tammy of Muskogee, daughter, Luanna Hodges and husband David of Tulsa, daughter, Betty Ann Todd and husband Johnny of Muskogee, son, Matthew Ashwood and wife Stacey of Muskogee, son, Andrew Ashwood and wife Jennifer of Muskogee; sixteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one sister, Mary Wozniak of Muskogee; one brother, Jack Ashwood and wife Harriett of Muskogee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry M. Ashwood and Mary Ellis (Thompson) Ashwood; brothers Harry M. Jr., John, Bud, Joe, Tom, and Bill; two sons, Charles Richard Jr. and Aaron Russell.
