On March 18, 2020, Nora Melvina (Martin) Welty gently left this world for her heavenly home while holding hands with a loved one at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 14, 1930 at Tipton, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin and Della Jane (Lee) Martin, the first of eleven children. She worked various jobs as a young adult including waitress and working at a Kress store in Roswell, New Mexico where she met and married Jessie Wayne Welty on November 14, 1961. In 1965 they move to Wynnewood, Oklahoma, area and remained for the rest of her life. For many years, she was busy being a devoted wife and mother. As the children grew, she went back to working including waitress for Red’s Cafe, working for Reavis Drug, and then at the State School at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Nora helped out with the Gulf Station Wayne ran at Stratford, Wayne’s By The Way convenience store near Kent’s Motel and later the Brady Store on hwy 17A. Even when Wayne and Nora sold the store they continued to frequent flea markets and were familiar faces at the “Dog Trade” in Sulphur for years selling tools and other items. Nora’s last years were spent at Burford Nursing home in Davis after severely breaking an ankle. Wayne was devoted in taking care of her wants and needs until he passed away July 17, 2017. The years after her sons and daughter close by made every effort to continue to take care of her with the help of many wonderful people at Burford Manor.
Nora is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Welty; parents, Benjamin F. and Della J.; granddaughter Kelly Radkiewicz; father- in-law, Jesse O. Welty and siblings Jean Welty, Norma Hicks, John Martin, Don Martin, James F. Martin, James H. Martin, Tommy Martin and many sister and brother-in-laws.
Nora is survived by brother, Jack Martin and wife, Barbara, Texas; sister, Mary Waits and husband, Robert, and sister, Rita Martin of Oklahoma. Wayne and Nora’s children: Billy Ray Tate of Sulphur, OK (formerly of Waco, TX): Robert W. Welty and wife, Cheri, of Rockwall, TX; Raymond L. Welty of Tampa, FL; Carleena L. (Welty) and husband Jim Day of Sulphur, OK; and Gerald W. “Butch” Welty of Wynnewood, OK. Grandchildren: Jaime E. Day, Sulphur, OK; Sarah R. (Welty) and husband, Len Keenan, Davis, OK; and Scott W. Welty and wife, Cassidy, Dalhart, TX. Ricky Radkiewicz, Nelson Radkiewicz, and Billy Lee Tate of Elm Mott, TX; James Welty, Georgia; Connie (Welty) and husband Jason Joyner; +Joshua Welty and wife, Amber, and Jonathan Welty and wife, Ceri, Florida. Great grandchildren are Dayne Bradley, Laynie Bradley, and Dayton Day of Sulphur; Jaysen Welty and Lillian Keenan of Davis; and Landri Welty of Dalhart, TX. Kali Garcia, Toni McCarthy, Haley Tate, and Rachel Tate, of Texas; Rebecca Welty of Georgia; Brock Joyner, Mallory Joyner, Faith Welty, and Cheyenne Welty, of Florida. Great-great-grandchildren are Beau McCarthy, Korra, Bentley Ivey, and Kamdyn Ivey, of Texas. Nora also is survived by a brother-in-law, Gerald D. Welty and wife Patsy of Oklahoma City. Aunt Nora leaves behind many nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews along with several cousins and their families.
In accordance with the COVID-19 Guideline Private Services will be held Saturday March 21, 2020 at 2:00PM at DeArman's Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev Dick Terry.
Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home
A Celebration of Nora's Life will be held at a later date.
