On July 17, 2017, at Sulphur, Oklahoma, Jessie Wayne Welty went to heaven surrounded by loved ones.

Wayne was born July 18, 1931 at Rising Star, Texas the oldest son Jesse O. and Mary Lou (Northam) Welty. He grew up around Quannah, Texas where he went to school. He lived in the area until the passing of his mother when he was 14 and then the family shuffled around some. In 1948, Wayne went into the Army and served in Japan and Korea. Wayne risked his life to save others which once even put him and his men behind the enemy line for almost a month. He received many honors including the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. In 1952, Wayne returned after discharge and worked on ranches, rode in rodeos, played guitar in a band and did various types of construction work. In Roswell, New Mexico, Wayne met and married Nora Martin on November 14, 1961. In 1965 they moved to Wynnewood, Oklahoma, area and remained the rest of his life. Wayne continued his construction work for years, then owned three different convenience/stores, and then retired. Even after retiring Wayne and Nora were familiar faces at the “Dog Trade” and flea markets for years selling a variety of tools and items. In 2003 he was honored as a Veteran with an Honorary Diploma from Elmore City Schools.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse O. and Mary Lou, step mother, Jean Welty, sister Ann Welty and granddaughter Kelly Radkiewicz.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Welty, living at Burford Nursing Home at Davis, OK; brothers: J.W. Welty, Gerald D. Welty and wife Patsy. Wayne and Nora’s children: Billy Ray Tate of Elm Mott, TX; Robert W. Welty and wife Cheri of Rockwall, TX; Raymond L. Welty of Tampa, Florida; Carleena L. (Welty) and husband Jim Day of Sulphur, OK; and Gerald W. “Butch” Welty of Wynnewood, OK. Grandchildren: Billy Lee Tate, Nelson Radkiewicz, and Ricky Radkiewicz, Elm Mott, TX; James Welty, Georgia; Connie (Welty) and husband Jason Joyner, Joshua Welty and wife Amber, and Jonathan Welty and wife Ceri, Tampa, FL; Jaime E. Day, Sulphur, OK; Sarah R.(Welty) and husband Len Keenan, Davis, OK;and Scott W. Welty and wife Cassidy, Dalhart, TX. Great grandchildren are Haley and Rachel Tate, Toni McCarthy and Kali Garcia, Texas; Rebecca Welty, Georgia; Brock and Mallory Joyner, Faith and Cheyenne Welty; Florida; Dayne and Laynie Bradley and Dayton Bouton, Sulphur; Jaysen and Lillian Keenan; Davis. Great-great-grandchildren are Beau McCarthy, Bentley and Kamdyn Ivey, TX. Also he left behind a brother-in-law: Jack Martin, TX; and sisters-in-law: Norma Hicks, Mary Waits and husband Robert, and Rita Martin; OK.

Services will be held at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur on Thursday, July 20 at 10:00AM. and interment will be at 1:00PM. in Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur with Rev Dick Terry and Robert Waits officiating.

Pallbearers will be the Patriot Guard Members. Grandsons and Great grandsons will serve as honorary bearers.

Family visitation will be Wednesday July 19, from 5 to 7PM at DeArman Funeral Home in Sulphur. Arrangements by DeArman Funeral Home
