Anna Gertrude Burnside, a resident of Sulphur was born February 16, 1931 in Dougherty, Oklahoma to R. D, and Annie (Byron) Ross. She passed away Thursday December 19, 2019 at Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years 10 months and 3 days.

Gertrude grew up in this area, graduating from Sulphur High School and attending Murray State College. She and W.C. "Bunny" Burnside were married on August 8, 1948 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2004. Gertrude had worked as a LPN at the Sulphur Veteran Center until her retirement. She was a member of the Crossway Baptist Church, and active in the community. Some of her many activities include being a member of the Rodeo Club and she was a rodeo queen, being on the Oaklawn Cemetery committee, hospital auxillary, historical society, sorosis club, helping at the church rec center, SASO Choir, flower club, helping with 4-H, bluebirds and campfire girls, Gertrude loved animals and swimming. She also once ran barrels at Madison Square Garden.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Dustin Burnside, and 7 siblings

Survived by her Daughter, Cynthia Burnside Brandenburger, of Blaine, Washington; 6 grandchildren: Dayton, Dustin, Cassidy, Joshua, Blayne, & Bria; 8 great-grandchildren including Jaylee whom she raised; 1 sister: Geraldine Waldon of California

Memorial services will be held Monday December 23, 2019 at 1:00PM at Crossway Baptist Church officiated by Rev Bill Leveridge.

The family requests that women attending the service wear their favorite hat, also that memorials be made in Gertrude's memory to Crossway Baptist Church Youth in lieu of flowers.
