Funeral services for Agnes Marie Regier were held Tuesday, October 29, at the Herald Mennonite Church in Bessie, Oklahoma under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell, Oklahoma.
Agnes was born April 4, 1936, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Herman and Emma Ruth Regier. Until 1948 she lived with her parents in rural Washita County and attended Flynn School. Then the family moved to what would become their family farm on Highway 152 west of the Washita River.
She passed away early on Saturday, October 26 in her home in Norman, Oklahoma.
She attended the Herold Mennonite Church with her parents and was baptized on July 16, 1951. She graduated from Cloud Chief High School in 1954. Following high school she attended Bethel College for two years, then an airline school for a year, and then attended Oklahoma State University for three years.
Agnes married Joe Wampler in 1959 at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church. They had two daughters, Anne and Jennifer. Some years after her first marriage ended, she was married to Robert Murphy.
Agnes was blessed with intellectual curiosity. She was always reading, enjoyed many different types of music, was eager to travel, and loved people. Her love for people made it easy for her to meet new people and develop good relationships quickly. She lived in a number of places during her adult life.
She placed priority on community involvement, laughed a lot, and was a good listener. Agnes was the kind of person people went to for advice. She had many friends some were very close. Her friends spanned the generations.
Agnes battled cancer in the final months of her life. During her illness she grappled strenuously with her relationship with God. She wondered if her sins could be forgiven. A couple of weeks before her death she once again placed her trust in Jesus Christ and received assurance of forgiveness. She joyfully declared that she would be in heaven with the lord.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anne Wampler of Norman, and Jennifer and husband Jim Goldsworthy of Gainesville, Texas; four grandsons, Hunter, Jacob, Tyler and Cooper Goldsworthy; one brother Herman (Sonny) Regier and wife Linda; one sister Emma Jean (Jeannie) Wood and husband A.G. of rural Cordell; Robert Murphy; and five nieces and nephews, Kristi, Brad, and Jud Regier, and Scott and Janet Wood; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Emma Ruth Balzer Regier.
Pallbearers were Charles Regier, Dale Regier, Brad Regier, Jud Regier, Scott Wood and Sevier White. Honorary Pallbearers were Bud Esry, Jim Johnson, Kenneth Siemens, Gene Siemens, and Delmer Siemens.
