Luther Lee Black, son of Robert E. Lee and Amanda Mae (Bryant) Black, was born June 19, 1909 at Claud, Oklahoma. He departed this life February 27, 2005 at Cordell Memorial Hospital at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 8 days.
Luther moved to this area from Duncan 55 years ago. A farmer, Luther worked for Mike Johnson for 15 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Dill City Roundup Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two wives, Opal Dolene Sanders Black in 1961 and Alice Black in 2002.
Survivors include his children, Omega Wolf and husband, Gilbert of Liberal, Kansas, James Robert Black and wife, Sharon of Burns Flat, Djuana Thomas and husband, David of Little Rock, Arkansas; sister, Viola Wolfe of Dill City; brother, Clifford Black of Clinton; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Luther Black will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Burns Flat, with Reverend Carl Thionnet and Reverend Scott Liner officiating. Interment under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Cordell, will follow in South Burns Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Justin Black, Jamie Black, James Black, Wade Wolf, David Williams and Greg McGathy.
