WESTFAHL, KENNETH M. 1919-2002
Mass of Christian burial for Kenneth M. Westfahl was celebrated Saturday, May 18th, 2002 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Okeene, Oklahoma, with Father Dave Cowden officiating. Rosary was observed Friday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Anthony's. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Okeene, Oklahoma, directed by Wilkinson Funeral Home, Okeene, Oklahoma. Kenneth as born northeast of Okeene, Oklahoma on November 3rd, 1919 to William and Margaret (Milfelt) Westfahl and died on Wednesday, May 15th, 2002 at the Okeene Hospital. Mr. Westfahl was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, VFW, Okeene Jaycees, and former vice-president of the board of directors of Farmers Mutual Insurance Company where he was a member for thirty-five years. As a youth, Kenneth was active in 4-H and FFA, where he received several farming and ranching honors. He served on the Oklahoma 4-H Dairy Judging team and represented Oklahoma at the national level in San Francisco in 1938. In 1953 he was chosen as Okeene Whea-Esta Wheat King, and was a charter member of the Okeene FFA. A veteran of WWII, Kenneth served from 1941-1945 in the Army Air Force as Master Sergeant stationed in England. He was Personnel Sergeant Major in the 29th Air Depot Group. Last spring Kenneth was inducted into the Blaine County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Kenneth was happiest when surrounded by his family. He was a remarkable, sharing, man who loved the outdoors and his gentle touch could be seen in the many treasures he created for his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; two sons: Kenneth Westfahl and wife LaDonna, of Isabella, Oklahoma; John Westfahl of Billings; four daughters: Barbara Greteman and husband Don of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; Linda Armstrong and husband Harold of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Denice Haworth and husband Mike of Fairview, Oklahoma; and Karen Cox and husband Gaylon of Laverne, Oklahoma; one brother: Clarence Westfahl of Fairview, Oklahoma; five sisters: Norene Moore, Mary Ellen Turner, and Billie Marcoux, all of Enid, Oklahoma; Doris Dean of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Francis Betty Bowman of Ames, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Chris Haworth and wife Tara of Enid, Oklahoma; William Ryan Keller M.D. of Miami, Florida; Vanessa Greteman Nix and husband Dustin of Yukon, Oklahoma; Tim Haworth of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Eric Greteman of Yukon, Oklahoma; Matt Cox of Laverne, Oklahoma; Luke, Micah, and Drew Westfahl of Isabella, Oklahoma; David Greteman of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; Mark Cox of Laverne, Oklahoma. The family of Kenneth Westfahl wishes to give our deep and sincere thanks to our relatives and friends for words of encouragement, prayers, cards, food and acts of kindness after the loss of our loved one. We want to thank Dr. Parrott and the entire nursing staff at the Okeene Hospital for the excellent care and compassion they gave Kenneth during the final week of his life. We want to thank the Alter Society and church family for the delicious family meal they provided before the service. A special heartfelt thanks goes to Father Dave and Deacon Duane for the beautiful service. We have lost someone very dear and precious to us and at times it seems unbearable, but it is because of our faith and your loving words and actions that we are comforted.
