THOMAS, RACHEL RAE (NUSZ) 1905-1981
Rae Thomas, 75, 419 W. Indiana, died Sunday following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Ron Fellemende and the Rev. Vernon Pendleton of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Enid Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas was born October. 31st, 1905, to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nusz at Isabell. At an early age, she moved with her parents to Enid where she finished school. In 1923, she and Andy Thomas were married. They made their home in El Dorado, Kansas for four years. In 1927, the couple moved back to Enid where he was in the restaurant business and she worked as a beauty operator. Mrs. Thomas was state oracle of the Rayal Neighbors, a Gold Star Mother, past president of Oklahoma State Beauticians Association, First president and charter member of the Excelsior chapter of ABWA and a member of the National Hairdressers Association. She was also the first woman to be appointed to a political office by Governor Roy J. Turner as president of the State Board of Cosmetology in Oklahoma. Survivors include a son, Jim Thomas, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Jake Nusz, Dacoma, Oklahoma; Paul Nusz, Enid, Oklahoma; and Rueben Nusz, Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Andy, one son and one daughter. As printed in the Enid paper September 27th, 1981, Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma.
