THORNTON, ANNA LAURA - 1910-2001
A private graveside service for Anna Thornton, 90, of Okeene was held Friday, September 28, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at Ebenfeld Cemetery, with Rev. Bennett Peters officiating. Arrangements were by Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene. Anna was born November 6, 1910 at Southard, Oklahoma to John and Anna Metlzer Rusch and passed away September 26, 2001 at the Okeene Hospital. She was raised and went to country schools in the Okeene area. At the age of seventeen, she went to Oklahoma City and worked at a job at Macklenburg and Duncan. She also worked in a boarding house for her room and board. This is where she met Les Edwards and they were married in 1929. They farmed in the Chickasha area several years until her husbands death. She moved back to Oklahoma City and operated an apartment house for several years until it was soled for the right-of-way for Interstate 40. She married Kemp Thornton and continued to live in Oklahoma City. She had her Real Estate License and served on the board. Real Estate was her calling. At a young age she was confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ, Okeene. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Anna loved her family and was dedicated to them. After the loss ofher husband, Anna moved to Okeene in 1992 and lived there until her death. She leaves to mourn sisters: Mollie Bouse and Mary Hoffman; brothers: Adam Rusch and Dave Schaffer. Many nieces and nephews and her caregiver for 9 years, Sharon Oblander. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and five brothers, several nieces and nephews.
