SCHMIDT, WALDO 1923-2002
Funeral services for Waldo J. Schmidt, 78, were held on Saturday, June 8th, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the Helena United Methodist Church with Rev. Brantley Tillery officiating. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery near Helena, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home of Helena, Oklahoma. Waldo was born on September 8th, 1923 at his parents home at Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, the son of Jacob and Anne (Koehn) Schmidt. On December 5th, 1948 he married Leola at the West New Hopedale Mennonite Church north of Ringwood, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Helena area. He worked as a maintenance worker for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and also farmed for Harold Melrose for eighteen years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1945 where he served in the infantry. He received the ranks of Private, Private First Class, and Tech 5. He received the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He attended the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Leola of the home; four children, Donald W. Schmidt of Clinton, Oklahoma; Ronald w. Schmidt of Helena, Oklahoma; Jimmie W. Schmidt of Carmen, Oklahoma; Linda Ferrell and husband, Monty of Burlington, Oklahoma; two brothers, Floyd Schmidt of Corn, Oklahoma; and Leslie Schmidt of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Damon Schmidt of Portland, Oregon; Michael and Melissa Schmidt of Clinton, Oklahoma; Jessy, Jessica and Julia Ferrell of Burlington, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Arnold, his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Edwin, and Dewey; one sister, Esther. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Helena United Methodist Church through Lanman Funeral Home.
