Kathryn Shinn, age 94, died May 3rd, 2002, at the Okeene Hospital. Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 6th, 2002 at Collins Cemetery with Dewayne Burg officiating. The service will be under the direction of Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Clifford Shinn. Kathryn was born September 22nd, 1907, in Warrensburg, Illinois to John and Caroline (Denny) Schwendemann. She and her parents moved to Douglas, Oklahoma, in 1908. In 1920, they moved to Homestead, Oklahoma where her father worked for a grain elevator company. Kathryn graduated from Homestead High School in the first graduating class of 1925. She began her teaching career in the fall of 1925, in the Green Valley Rural School in Major County. She retired from teaching in 1972, after 36 years in the classroom. The last 13 years were spent in Putnam City Schools in Oklahoma County. Kathryn and Clifford Shinn were married April 23rd, 1932, at Watonga, Oklahoma. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 1982. They lived on a farm most of their married life, moving to Okeene in 1972. Kathryn was a life member of O.E.A. and O.R.T.A. She was a member of Blaine County Retired Teachers. Kathryn was active in the Teacher's Sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota and a fifty-year member of the Okeene Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of the Okeene Chapter # 210, in 1979 and 1980, and was organist for many years. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, in 1984, a sister, Helen, in 1965 and two brothers: John in 1984, and Warren in 2001; her father in 1977 and her mother in 1978. She is survived by: a brother Glen Schwendemann, two sisters: Dorothy Southern and Ruth Yoshpa of Torrance, California; also several nieces and nephews.
