PARKER, CHARLES 1936-2002
Charles "Choppy" Parker was born February 2, 1936 at Combs, Arkansas to Raymond Jack Parker and Marie Martin. He left this life on February 14, 2002, finding peace after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents. During his full life he was privileged with five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He attended and graduated from Comanche High School at Comanche, Oklahoma. During high school, he excelled in football and boxing. His boxing team was credited with successfully defeating the Fort Sill Army Team when he delivered the victory with the only knockout of the event. The defeat resulted in Fort Sill dropping all competitive matches with high schools. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army where he obtained the rank of Sergeant while stationed in Wildflecken, Germany. Through his training, Choppy achieved citations as a 1000 meter expert on the M-1 Garand and the 45 Pistol. Choppy resided the majority of his adult life in the Ringwood area. He retired from Continental Trend Resources after being one of the company's original employees. During his tenure he worked as a truck driver, driller, and tool pusher. Even after his retirement, you could find him having his morning coffee at the Ringwood shop. When not hanging around the shop, he could be found at Salt Plains Lake pursuing the ever elusive Channel Cat with whoever would go with him. Fish quivered at the sheer mention of his name. Choppy had such a fondness for the sport of fishing and Salt Plains Lake his family has decided to hold one last fishing trip for him and his friends at Salt Plains. Memorial services will be held at Wildwood Outdoor Chapel located at the River Road area campgrounds behind the dam of the Great Salt Plains Lake on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. Choppy's passion for the sport of fishing and the appreciation he had for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, those who choose may make a memorial donation to the Wildlife Departments Education Program Project. They may be made at the service or mailed to the Charles Parker Wildlife Memorial, 15950 Sunhollow Circle, Lexington, Oklahoma, 73051. His family would like to extend our invitation to everyone who knew and loved Choppy to come and share a joyful event and considering Choppy's distaste for suits, the family extends the option of casual attire. Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home of Helena. As printed in the "OKEENE RECORD" Thursday, February 21, 2002, Okeene, Blaine County, Oklahoma.
