NUSS, LELAND RAYMOND 1912-1996
Dodge City, Kansas - Leland "Ray" Nuss, 83, died August 7th,1996 at Sterling House, Dodge City, Kansas. He was born December 15th, 1912 at Galatia, Kansas, the son of Peter and Amelia (Steinert) Nuss. He was raised and attended schools at Galatia. He began barbering at the age of 16 in Galatia. After his marriage, he moved to Russell, Kansas. In 1943 he moved to Great Bend, Kansas and was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired in 1995 after 67 years of barbering. In 1995 he moved to Sterling House in Dodge City, Kansas. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Dodge City, and American Legion Argonne Post No. 180 in Great Bend, Kansas. He served in the Medical Corps during Worlds War II in the Pacific Theater. On August 2, 1936, he married Elsie Kelpe at Galatia, Kansas. She died April 16, 1995. Survivors include a son: Morris of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters: Una Rae Durheim of Dodge City, Kansas; and Carole Dorsch of Lawrence Kansas; a sister, Gertrude Dietz of Overland Park, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City Kansas, with the Rev Randall Jahnke presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6: 00 p.m. Sunday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, Kansas. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Prairie of Dodge City, or Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City, both in care of the funeral home.
