NUSS, EVA KATHERINE (STEINERT) 1886-1962
The daughter of John Frederick and Eva Katherine (Dumler) Steinert was born January 22nd, 1886 in south Russell County, Kansas. She departed this life on March 22nd, 1962 at the City Hospital, Russell, Kansas. Her age was 76 years and 2 months. On February 7th, 1886 she was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. A. F. Augustine. Later, after becoming of age, she was confirmed in the Iowa Synod Lutheran Church at Milberger, Kansas by the Rev. J.G. F. Kleinhans. She retained her faith in her church and was a member of her church at the time of her death. Katie (Steinert) Nuss spent her girlhood and most of her adult life on the farm home of her parents and later with her husband John Jacob Nuss, with who she was united in marriage in 1905, by the Rev. Heinze. There were seven children born to this marriage, three of whom preceded her in death. On January 28th, 1951, her husband preceded her in death and she mad her home with her children for some time. Later she moved to the city of Russell and about thre years ago, when her health became such that she needed medical and nursing care, she became a patient at the Russell Rest Home. During the past year she had been admitted as a patient at the Russell Hospital several times and it was at this hospital, on March 22nd, (Thursday) that she quietly and peacefully passed away. There are many acts and deeds of devotion, love, and sacrifice that could be recorded in this brief obituary, but to treasure and remember this Christian mother, wife, friend, and neighbor are, four sons: Theobold G. of Hoisington, Kansas; Irving of Corvallis, Oregon; Harold of Russell, Kansas; and Reuben of Russell, Kansas. Eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. John K. Nuss of Hoisington, Kansas; and Mrs. Peter Nuss of Great Bend, Kansas; two brothers: Emanual Steinert of Russell, Kansas; and David Steinert of Hoisington, Kansas; other near relatives and many close friends. Besides her parents and husband, three sons and two brothers preceded her in death. Services were held Saturday, March 25th, 1962 from the Deines Brothers Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., followed by Final Rites from Emanuel Lutheran Church at Milberger, Kansas at 2:45 p.m. with Minister Rev. E. Rummel, Pastor of the Otis Luther Church officiating. Organist was Mrs. Rudy Funk. Music was by the church choir. Quartette members were Hubert Karst, John Karst, Orlen Karst, and Constantine Karst. Casket bearers were: Erving Eldon Nuss, Roger Mighell, Elmer Bitter, Kenneth Nuss, Dean Nuss, Elroy Nuss, and Howard Mai. Interment was in the Milberger Cemetery, Milberger, Kansas.
