MYERS, JESSIE E. (ELKINS-GOODE) 1907-2001
Jessie E. (Elkins-Goode) Myers was born September 9, 1907 in Woods County, Oklahoma to Joel Henry and Gladys Elizabeth (Ogilivie) Elkins and passed away December 4th, 2001 at the Life Care Center in Burlington, Kansas at the age of 94. As a young girl, she attended the Wisby Free Methodist Church. She attended Valley Green grade school and graduated from Central Academy and College in McPherson, Kansas. She then finished her college at Alva, Oklahoma. She taught several years then returned to help at home. In May 1942 she married Dean Goode and was with him during his Army training. On his return from service, they farmed south of Aline, Oklahoma until his death in December 1962. She worked at Dyers Grocery in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma until she retired then her time was spent in her garden and quilting with the Christian Ladies Aide. On December 6, 1986, she married John Myer and made her home in Enid until his death July 6th, 2000. Her health prevented her living alone so she moved to Burlington, Kansas to be near a niece. Mrs. Myers is survived by step-children: Marvin Myers of Enid, Oklahoma; Wayne Myers of Wakita, Oklahoma; Galen and Milton Myers of Wichita, Kansas; Lynn Myers of Michigan; Faye Nyes of Illinois as well as nieces and nephews. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, brothers Wallace, Byron, Dwight, Marshall and Grisham Elkins and sisters, Beulah Jeffries, Halcyon "Hallie" Freeburg and Annette Hall; nephew, Henry Hall. Her funeral service was Friday, December 7th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee, Oklahoma with burial to follow at Aline Star Cemetery, Aline, Oklahoma. Rev. David Keller will officiate. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimers Division.
