KERNS, MABEL (AYERS) 1903-2002
Graveside service for Mabel Kerns, 98, who died Friday, September 13th, 2002 at Great Plains Care Center in Helena, Oklahoma was at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 at Aline Star Cemetery near Aline officiated by Rev. Casey McKenna. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Mabel was born northeast of Goltry on October 29th, 1903, the daughter of Thomas and Luetta (Hawkins) Ayres. They moved to Helena and she attended school there for four years. They then moved back to the farm near Goltry. She graduated from Goltry High School in 1922. She married Claude Kerns on December 12th, 1929 in Helena. She and her husband operated the Kerns Machine Shop in Aline, Oklahoma for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren near Helena. She also belonged to the Stitch-Away Club for 56 years. Mabel is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews including, Orpha Lawrence of Fairview and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude on November 15th, 1978, two sisters and three brothers. Memorials may be made to Great Plains Care Center or the charity of the donors choice through Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.
