KNOPF, HELEN, LOUISE (WHITEHEAD) 1929-2002
Funeral service for Helen Louise Knopf, 73, was held Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Driftwood Christian Church north of Cherokee with Rev. Dave Atzenweiler officiating. Burial followed at Keith Cemetery near Burlington, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee. Helen went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 24th, 2002 at her home in rural Burlington after a lengthy illness. Helen was born in rural Burlington to Arthur and Elsie Whitehead on January 31, 1929 and lived in Alfalfa county all her life. She was the oldest of five girls and helped care for her four sisters. She attended school at Driftwood and other Alfalfa and Woods county towns, but graduated from Driftwood High School in 1947, then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma for two years. Helen taught school as a substitute teacher. She also worked for various families in the Burlington and Cherokee areas, and helped her dad with various farming and dairy duties. Helen was united in marriage to Marvin Knopf on November 9th, 1952. They farmed and ranched south of Burlington. To this union six children were born: Vickie, Rita, Floyd, Marlene, Ramona, and Rebecca. After raising her children, Helen provided day care services at her home for several local children and for grandchildren. Caring for her family, cooking the family's special favorites and children were great joys to her. She also enjoyed working in the garden, planting flowers, and vacationing with her husband and children. Helen was devoted to the Lord and served in her church as a Sunday school teacher, church registrar, pianist, librarian, nursery worker, and prepared foods for various activities. Helena was a memb er of the Driftwood Christian Church. She also attended churches in Cherokee and Ingersol over the years. Helen worked in the Burlington precinct for the Alfalfa County Election Board for many years. Helen is survived by a son, Floyd Knopf and wife, Misti of Burlington, Oklahoma; five daughters: Vickie Schiffner and husband Allen of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Rita Baldwin and husband Jack of Enid, Oklahoma; Marlene Knopf of Stoughton, Wisconsin; Ramona Atchley and husband Ted of Tonkawa; and Rebecca Knopf Harper of Cherokee, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law: Bud Knopf and wife Ruth of Burlington; Milton Knopf and wife Loraine of Lakewood, Colorado; Orville Fellers of Byron, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Bernice Knopf, Kathleen Gerber and husband Glenn of Clinton, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents, a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Milton Dorris. Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love of Alva or Driftwood Christian Church through Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee.
