JANES, MIDRED (BOYD) 1911-2002
Funeral service for Mildred Janes was held Monday, March 11, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. in the Zoar Mennonite Church in Goltry with Pastor Gary Eastin officiating. Burial followed in Karoma Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home of Helena. Mildred was born on February 2, 1911 to Ben and Illa (Doty) Boyd in Bruceton, Tennessee. She completed her journey in this life at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid, Oklahoma on March 8, 2002. She married C.D. Peoples and they lived in Memphis, Tennessee until his death. She had no children of her own but adopted a son, Bill. World War II came and she moved to San Diego, California where she was employed at a war plane plant as "Rosie the Riveter". During that time, she met Jack Wilson. He was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. After the war, she and Jack were married. The two of them, along with Bill, moved to Oklahoma. In 1951, her niece, Betty, came from Memphis, Tennessee to live with them and attended high school. Jack died January 25, 1975. On March 28, 1981 she married Lester G. Janes in the home of her niece, Charles and Betty Crain, west of Goltry. The couple farmed and lived in his farm home until their health gave them reason to move into Goltry in 1992. Just this year, it was very evident they could no longer care for each other in their own home so they moved to Greenbrier in Enid, Oklahoma. Lester and Mildred were very devoted to each other. He will miss her very much. Mildred was an excellent cook and seamstress. To her, if anything was worth doing at all, it needed to be done right. Her firm attitude made her a survivor. She loved flowers and could grow the biggest variety of bulbs and plants in the smallest areas and they all survived. She and Lester enjoyed holidays and other events in homes of family. It was a pleasure to visit with her. She attended Zoar Mennonite Church. Survivors are: Lester, her devoted husband; daughter-in-law, Loretta Wilson of Helena; two step-children, Gary Janes and wife, Dorothy of Enid; Galen Janes and wife Kathy of Enid; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Jack Wilson; son Bill Wilson and sister, Beatrice Sullivan. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research, Heart or Diabetes through Lanman Funeral Home. As printed in "the OKEENE RECORD", Thursday, March 21, 2002, Okeene, Blaine County, Oklahoma.
