HOWERTON, LOYD G. 1909-1999
FAIRVIEW - The funeral for Loyd G. Howerton, 89, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church. The Rev. Tom Schwartz will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday. He was born October 14, 1909, in Alto Pass, Illinois to Gilbert and Mae Stearnes Howerton and died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at the Fairview Fellowship Home. He had moved from Illinois to Longdale in 1918, and attended Mountain View Country School. He opened a barbershop in 1932 and was a barber for 42 years. On May 2, 1937, he married Hulda Unruh in Fairview. He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the American Legion and Fairview Central Christian Church. He was a past member of Odd Fellows and was a Fireman in Fairview for 10 years. Surviving are his wife, Hulda of the home; one son, Paul of Longdale; one daughter, Judy Laubach of Okeene; two brothers, Raymond of Enid and Woodrow of Fairview; one sister, Ella "Sally" Boehs of Fairview; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Diabetes Division.
