Gottfied Haffner, the son of Gottffried and Eva Katherine Haffner, was born May 26, 1884 in Sherbakofka, Imperial Russia. Baptized in Russia, he was as a member of the St.John's United Church of Christ in Okeene in 1902, three years after his arrival in this country. He was married on February 18, 1907 to the former Eva Elizabeth Winter, who preceded him in death, March 16, 1932, after 25 years of marriage. On Christmas day, 1935, he married the former Elsie Kramer, who died August 15, 1956, after 21 years of marriage. He is survived by his present wife, the former Elizabeth Kuxhaus, whom he married December 29, 1957. In addition he is survived by three daughters of his first marriage: Leah, Mrs. Herb Weber; Frieda, Mrs. Reuben Weber, both of Okeene; and Emma, Mrs. Edwin Weber, of Homestead; a sister, Mrs. Henry Rusch, Fairview; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Haffner, passed away after a lingering illness at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 1965, in the Schallmo Manor, Okeene. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Church of Christ for Gottfried Haffner, 81, who died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. Rev. John R. Deller officiated with music by Mrs. Wilbur Silks, pianist; and the Homestead Quartet. Active bearers were Tom Essex, Gary Weber, Larry Weber, Dennis Weber, Kirk Rothell, and George Dobrinski. Honorary bearers were E. J. Kramer, Andrew Nusz, Dave Jantzen, Henry Stricker, Carl Heffel, and Ben Bierig. Burial was in the Bierig Cemetery, under the direction of Keller & Landis funeral home.
