HAAS, DAVID December 30, 1926
HEAD WOUNDED BY SHOT - David Haas, East of Marion Near Death From Shotgun Wound.
David Haas, who lives east of Marion, was almost fatally injured Monday evening when he shot himself in the head with a .410 shotgun. Just how it happened is not known as he was in an upstairs room, with the only other occupant a small child, when the shooting occurred. Mr. Haas was brought to the Marion hospital but up until late reports had not regained consciousness sufficiently to tell anything about it. He is still in a very critical condition. The charge of the shot took effect at the top of his head above his ear and quite a big opening was torn in his skull near the brain. It was first reported that he had tried to commit suicide but how it actually happened is not known. The manner in which the shot took effect would indicate the gun was discharged accidentally. Mr. Haas is a highly respected farmer in his community and news of his serious injury came as a great shock to his friends and relatives.
