Guffy, Amy Darlene 1971-2002
Amy Darlene Guffy was born on March 10th, 1971 at Kiowa, Kansas and passed away at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 10th, 2002 at the age of 31 years and 7 months. Amy grew up in the Byron community and attended school at Burlington, Oklahoma graduating with the class of 1989. She attended college at NWOSU in Alva and Rose State College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She served in the U.S. Navy from July of 1991 until her medical discharge in 1993. After her discharge, she moved to Colorado where she lived for a short time. She eventually moved back to Oklahoma City where her son, Austin James was born on November 22, 1997. Soon after his birth, she moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma to be close to family and made her home there. Amy's son, Austin, and her family were her whole life. Amy lived more in her short 31 years of life than most people did in a lifetime. Her goal in life was to make people happy and find happiness for herself. Amy never met a strange. She had a quick wit and greeted each person with a happy smile. Amy was a warm and loving person who would do anything for anyone. Amy is survived by her son, Austin James of the home in Cherokee, Oklahoma; her parents, James and Carol Guffy of Byron, Oklahoma; and Brian and Rita Schwerdtfeger of Cherokee; a sister Sara L. and husband Cody Atkins of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two brothers: Danny J Guffy and wife Amber of Byron, Oklahoma; and Matthew A. Guffy of Cherokee, Oklahoma; grandparents: Wayne and Lois Guffy of Byron, Oklahoma; and Carroll and Carole Allen of Longmont, Colorado; and Darlene Allen of Boulder, Colorado; and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held Monday, October 14th, 2002 at the First Methodist Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma with Rev. Roland Youngberg officiating. Burial was followed at Byron-Amorita Cemetery. Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to Austin Guffy Educational Fund through Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee, Oklahoma.
