BLEHM, LELA (JUREY) 1933-2002
Funeral service for Lela Blehm, 68, who died at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City early Monday, July 8th, 2002, was held at Hitchcock United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 at 8:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Burial followed at Cottonwood Cemetery near Hitchcock, Oklahoma with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home of Okeene, Oklahoma. Lela was born at Longdale on December 29th, 1933, the daughter of John Leslie Jurey and Mary Etta (Scott) Jurey. She was raised at Longdale and graduated from Longdale High School in May 1952. On September 15, 1951 she and L. D. "Dutch" Blehm were married at Watonga, Oklahoma. They lived in the Hitchcock area where she served as Postmistress for a number of years. She was later employed as secretary for Blehm Mud disposal. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States as well as the Oklahoma Chapter of Postmasters. She was a member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church where she had to position of Sunday School Secretary and she was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Survivors include her husband, L. D. "Dutch" Blehm of Hitchcock; one son and his wife, Brad and Henrietta of Okeene, Oklahoma; four sisters, Jean Gatz of El Reno, Oklahoma; Hilda Rhodes of Capron, Oklahoma; Jane Rutz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Mary Cay of Highlandville, Missouri; two grandchildren: Katie and Thomas Blehm. She was preceded in death by one son Tom Blehm in 1975 as well as one brother and one sister. Memorials may be made to the Okeene School Foundation through Lanman Funeral Home of Okeene.
