BARTEL, EDWARD M. 1911-2001.
The funeral for Edward M. Bartel, 90, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2001, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Canton, Oklahoma. The Revs. Vernon Garrison and James Scott officiated. Burial followed in the Cherryvale Cemetery. Arrangements were by Haigler Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. He was born August 31, 1911, at Hitchcock to Peter and Elizabeth (Hempel) Bartel and died Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at Fairview Hospital. He grew up and attended schools at Cherryvale and Southard. He married Dorothy Mason October 6, 1935. They lived on a farm five miles west of Canton, and later moved their farm one mile west of Southard. He worked at the United States Gypsum plant at Southard for 33 years before retiring in 1974. He also farmed and raised cattle for many years until his health failed. He has lived at the Fairview Fellowship Home for the last several years. Surviving are two sons: Gerald Bartel of Quanah, Texas and R. O. "Olan" Bartel of Southard; two daughters, LaVonda Enos of San Leandro, California, and Erna Fisher of Enid; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, two infant children, four brothers, and three sisters. Memorials may be made through Haigler Funeral Home, Canton, to the Cherryvale Cemetery.
