PADEN

Mrs. Stella May LEWIS PADEN, 79 years old, wife of Dan PADEN of this city, died at her home here Christmas morning after a few weeks' illness.
Funeral service was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, with Rev. C.E. HARDY, retired Baptist minister, in charge, assisted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, retired Methodist minister. Burial was in the city cemetery with the Roberts Funeral Home directing arrangements.
Mrs. PARDEN was born at Evansville, Ark. She was married to Mr. PADEN January 22, 1896, and had been a member of the Methodist church for the last 61 years.
Survivors include the husband; two sons, Byron and Clay PADEN; one brother, Al LEWIS of Evansville; and one sister, Mrs. Maggie CHANEY of Salt Fork, Okla.

January 8, 1943

ESTES

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 2, from the Roberts Funeral Chapel for Steve ESTES, age 74 years. Mr. ESTES died early Friday morning at the home of his sister, here in Westville, after a few days illness of pneumonia.
He was born near Summers, Ark., and lived his entire life in this community.
He is survived by one sister, Betty ESTES, five brothers, W.L. ESTES, Baker, Ore.; Albert ESTES, Glendale, Ariz.; Dave ESTES, Ada, Okla.; Toney ESTES, Braggs, Okla.; and John ESTES of Maysville, Ark.
Burial was made in the Ganderville Cemetery near Summers.

WATKINS

Funeral services were held from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Thursday, December 31, for Mrs. Mary BINGHAM WATKINS, age 80 years.
Mrs. WATKINS died at the home of her son in Oklahoma City, December 26, from injuries received from a fall in the home.
She is survived by 1 daughter, 8 sons, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. WATKINS moved with her son from this community to Oklahoma City only a week before her death.

DODGEN

Friends here are grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. John DODGEN, which occured quite suddenly at her home in Siloam Springs Sunday, December 27. Our deepest sympathy is extended the bereaved family.

LITTLES

Funeral service was held Saturday, January 9, from the Roberts Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jim KETCHER for Nancy D. LITTLES, who died at her home here in Westville, January 7, after a long illness.
Mrs. LITTLES was born November 10, 1861 in Tennessee. She was the wife of Rev. Joseph M. LITTLES, who preceded her in death 35 years ago.
She is survived by seven daughters and one son, Mrs. Charlie CAGLE and Mrs. Irvin SMITH, both of Westville; Mrs. Henry SMITH, Christie; Mrs. Bill SMITH, Muskogee; Mrs. Ed VANBEBER, Greeley, Colo.; Mrs. Billy VANBEBER, Asherville, Kan.; Mrs. Buford BARTON, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Charlie LITTLES, Stilwell.

January 22, 1943

BEAN

Funeral services were held January 14 for Mrs. Victoria T. BEAN in Ardmore, where she died after a three days illness.
Age 87 years, Mrs. BEAN had lived most of her life near Lincoln and Evansville and had many friends in this community.
She is survived by nine grandchildren which include Mark and J.W. BEAN, of Westville, who attended the funeral of their grandmother. Three great grandchildren also survive her. Burial was made in Rose Hill Cemetery at Ardmore.

DEARING

Funeral services for Oscar DEARING, 64 years old, who died at his home in Baton Rouge, La., Tuesday morning were held at the Presbyterian church at Prairie Grove Saturday under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Burial was in the Prairie Grove cemetery.
Mr. DEARING was a resident of that town and a traveling salesman in this territory until three years ago when he moved to Baton Rouge.
He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Harold BARR, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren all of Baton Rouge.

PHILLIPS

M.C. PHILLIPS, age 68 years, died at his home near Westfork, Ark., Wednesday night, January 27, after a two day illness.
Funeral services were held at Shady Grove, Friday afternoon under the direction of the Wilson-Savage Funeral Home of Fayetteville. Burial was made in the Westfork cemetery.
Survivors include his niece, Mrs. T.F. REINOLD of this city, who attended the funeral.

COLLINS

Mrs. Nancy COLLINS, age 82 years, died at her home, south of town, Wednesday evening, after a long illness.
Mrs. COLLINS was a lifelong resident of this county.
Surviving are four sons, a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home, Friday afternoon at 2:30, burial in Alberty Chapel Cemetery.

ELLISON

Ill health is thought to be the cause of Raymond ELLISON taking his own life at the home of his father here Friday, February 26.
Born November 9, 1908, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. ELLISON, was married December 25, 1933 to Miss Jewell LEE in Fayetteville.
Funeral serivce, conducted by Rev. SANKEY, was held from the Roberts Funeral Home, Sunday afternoon, February 28th, with burial in the city cemetery.
Besides his parents and wife, survivors also include three sisters and four brothers.

GREGG

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Sankey, were held from the Roberts Funeral Home, Sunday morning, February 28, at 11 a.m. for Catherine BARRETT GREGG, age 81 years. Mrs. GREGG died Saturday after a long illness at the home of her niece, Mrs. Lee FOLSOM, with whom she had lived for the past ten years.
She is survived by six nieces and four nephews. Mrs. O.R. BLACK, Mrs. A.L. RHODES and Mrs. Lee FOLSOM. nieces, were present for the last rites.
Burial was made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery.

SIMMONS

W.E. SIMMONS, age 67 years, prominent farmer, died suddenly at his home 2 1/2 miles west of town Tuesday afternoon, March 2.
Born in Tennessee, he moved with his parents to this country when a small boy, and has lived here since that time.
Mr. SIMMONS had been in failing health for sometime and only last week sold his farm and stock and moved to a smaller place on account of his health.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Forrest SIMMONS of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Mrs. Golda COLLYGE, Sand Springs, Miss Violene SIMMONS and Mrs. Majorie REEDER, both of Tulsa, and Mrs. Wanda BARTLETT of Miami, Okla. Four sisters and one brother also survive, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Home.

March 12, 1943

REYNOLDS

Ed REYNOLDS, age about 66, died Monday night at his home at Blue Jacket, Okla., after having suffered a stroke of paralysis Sunday night. Mrs. Claud JORDAN, north of town, is a daughter of Mr. REYNOLDS.
Besides Mrs. JORDAN, he is survived by his wife, one son and another daughter.
Having visited here several times, he has a number of friends in this section.

PAYTON

This community was saddened Monday when it was learned that Fred PAYTON, 67, a lifelong resident of Adair county had taken his life by shooting himself with a shotgun at the home of a friend, with whom he had been living for the past three months, near Stilwell.
Mr. PAYTON has been in ill health for several years which was thought to be the reason for his action. He is survived by one brother, Wilburn PAYTON, of Westville, several nephews and one niece.
Burial was made at Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

SPARKS

Mrs. Ona SPARKS, age 68 years, wife of M.R. SPARKS, died at her home northwest of town Sunday, March 14, after a brief illness.
Mrs. SPARKS was born at Berryville, Arkansas, but had been a resident of Adair county for a number of years.
Funeral services were held at Dutch Mills, Ark., Wednesday, March 17th, conducted by Rev. WHITLEY, with burial in the Dutch Mills cemetery.
Besides her husband, survivors include three sons, Ethel SPARKS, Carl SPARKS and Floy SPARKS; one brother and one sister.

JONES

Funeral service for Henry A. JONES, age 68 years, was held at 10:30 Saturday morning from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. J.D. WATKINS of Tulsa, former pastor of the local Baptist church.
Mr. JONES died Thursday afternoon in a Prairie Grove hospital where he had been ill for the past three weeks.
A native of Fort Smith and Greenwood, Ark., he came with his wife to Westville a few years ago and had been one of our leading farmers. A second funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial in Rose Lawn cemetery there.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle JONES; a son A.A. JONES, Ozark, Ark.; a daughter, Miss Blanch JONES, Fort Smith; one brother, Marion, of Tulsa, and two sister, Mrs. John S. MCCORD and Mrs. Joe Lee JOYCE, both of Greenwood.

VANBEBER

Ed VANBEBER, father of Mrs. John KIRBY of this city, passed away March 11th at his home in Greeley, Colo., at the age of 67 years.
Mr. VANBEBER spent the greater part of his life in this community, having reared his family of seven children here, leaving Adair county in 1931 and has lived in Colorado since that time.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two daughters, five sons, one sister, four brothers, several grandchildren and a host of friends. Two sons and three grandsons are serving in the U.S. Army.

MCCULLOUGH

Mrs. Ida Mae MCCULLOUGH, age 66 years, died at her home at Strawberry Springs, west of town, Thursday, March 11. Funeral service was held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. PERKINS. Burial was in the Baptist Mission cemetery north of town.

HARDY

Funeral rites for Mrs. C.E. HARDY, age 74 years, who died at six o'clock Friday morning at her home in the east part of town, were held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, with Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, pastor of the local Baptist church, in charge.
Elizabeth Alice THOMPSON was born in Benton County, Arkansas, July 2, 1868, and was married to Charles Edward HARDY, February 24, 1897.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. C.E. HARDY, retired Baptist minister; three daughters, Jewell Eva CROUSE of Saint Louis, Okla., Lula Fern SUMMERS of Muskogee, and Barbara Alice HENDERSON, Oklahoma City; one son, Lawrence Edward HARDY, Tulsa; one brother, James THOMASON of Sulphur Springs, Ark.; nine grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her departure.

BEATY

Funeral service for Mrs. Fannie BEATY, age 73 years, was held this (Thursday) morning at 11 o'clock from the Roberts Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, local Baptist pastor.
Mrs. BEATY died in a Prairie Grove hospital Tuesday, March 30, where she had been taken the first of the week.
Mrs. BEATY, with her husband, the late Sam BEATY, moved from this community a number of years ago, she having returned a year ago to make her home.
Survivors are two sons and two daughters, and several grandchildren.

ELKINS

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, for Henry R. ELKINS who died suddenly Sunday, April 11th, at the home of his step-daughter, Mrs. W.H. HERN, at the age of 69 years.
Mr. ELKINS was born in Madison County, Arkansas, and came to Oklahoma, with his parents, when a small boy. Most of his life was spent in and around Westville. He was married to Mrs. Marguret COSTON in Westville in 1905, she having preceded him in death four years ago.
He leaves three brothers, Jim, Leonard, and Dolly; and seven step children, Mrs. W.H. HERN of Westville, Mrs. Bud PROFFIT, Mrs. Fred ELLENA, Mrs. Tom WHITMIRE, Will, Sam, and Meridith COSTON, all of California.
Burial was made in the Baptist Mission cemetery north of town.

LEWIS

The charred body of Ira Otho LEWIS, 73 year old veterinarian and horse trainer, was found in his burned home here in the east part of town, at six o'clock Tuesday morning. Some of the household goods had been carried from the burning building before the fire company arrived, indicating that LEWIS probably had been overcome in the flames while removing his belongings from the house. LEWIS was home alone while his wife was away on a visit. The family lived on a farm northwest of town before purchasing their town home two months ago, which was completely destroyed by the fire.
Grave-side services were held Wednesday afternoon at the City cemetery, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, assisted by the Westville and Stilwell A.F. and A.M. Lodges.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Deama PHILLIPS of Westville, Mrs. Alma BROTHERINGTON of Clarksville, Ark., Mrs. Beulah MCMAHON, Ponca City, Okla., Mrs. Grace MCCOY, Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Dot EDMONDS of ElDorado, Kansas; one son Harold, of Vinita; seventeen grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
The Record force joins the other friends and neighbors in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

PATTERSON

A beautiful tribute was paid to a Christian mother in the funeral service, held Sunday from the Methodist church in Lincoln, conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS, assisted by Rev. DeWitt SANKEY, for Mrs. Maggie H. PATTERSON.
Mrs. PATTERSON died at the home of her son, Oscar PATTERSON, Saturday morning, April 17th, at the age of 91 years.
She was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, January 3, 1852, and married J.B. PATTERSON in 1875. She came with her family from North Carolina in 1881 and settled at Cane Hill, Ark., where she spent the greater part of her life. The last few years having been spent in the home of her son, Oscar, at Westville.
She was the mother of twelve children, ten of whom survive. Oscar and Clyde of Westville, Arthur of Dutch Mills, Ark., Charley of Fullerton, Calif., Lacy of Pamona, Calif., Alpha of Berkely, Calif., Mrs. Mattie BLAKE of Morrow, Ark., Mrs. Lake REED, Siloam Springs, Ark., Mrs. Eula SHANNON, Anaheim, Calif., and Mrs. Nola CONGER, Fullerton, Calif. Eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Burial was in Dutch Mills cemetery beside her husband, who preceded her in death in 1912.

CARLTON

Funeral sevices were held from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.A. GOURD, assisted by Rev. CRAWFORD of Preston, Okla., for Samuel S. CARLTON, age 65 years, who died at his home here Saturday, April 17, after having been in ill health for some time.
The family moved here some two months ago from Colcord, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters and two sons; Mrs. C. CHAPMAN, Oenaville, Texas, Velma CARLTON, Westville, Walter CARLTON, Harrison, Ark., Lawrence CARLTON, Parthenon, Ark., Mrs. Earl CASEY, Preston, Okla., and Christa CARLTON, Westville. Three grandchildren, four sisters and four brothes also survive

WEST

Word has been received here of the death of J.B. WEST in Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. WEST was a resident of this community for many years, having rcently gone to California to be near his children. He died at his home there Saunday after a brief illness of pneumonia, at the age of 73 years.
His daughter, Mrs. Eddie HOWARD, and Mr. HOWARD, of Baron, left immediately for California upon receipt of the death message.

WOOLARD

Mrs. Sarah J. WOOLARD, age 81 years, wife of Lewis WOOLARD, of the Oak Hill community, died at her home Friday, April 16, burial being made in the Watts cemetery Saturday under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

SANKEY

Graveside funeral services, conducted by Rev. DeWitt SANKEY, were held Thursday, May 6, at Strawberry Springs cemetery, for Lewis William SHAFER, age 74 years, who died at his home in that community May 5.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. A.W. JONES and Finis SHAFER of Westville, Francis SHAFER, Christie, Mrs. L.D. ROSS, Wilburton, Okla., Mrs. A.C. STEPHENS, Longview, Texas.
Eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive

MAYBERRY

Mrs. Buna MAYBERRY was called to Gentry, Ark., Thursday on account of the death of her brother-in-law, A.W. TWIGG, who died at his home there Wednesday following a heart attack. Mrs. Mayberry has been visiting in the TWIGG home and was enroute to Westville when she received the message.
Mrs. TWIGG is the former Mrs. Ethel WILSON of Westville and lived here before her to marriage to Mr. TWIGG in December of last year.

CRITTENDEN

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 17th, at New Hope cemetery, conducted by Rev. Bill THOMPSON and Rev. Earl ODLE, for Mose CRITTENDEN, age 71 years, who died Saturday after a several days' illness of pneumonia, in a Tahlequah hospital.
Mr. CRITTENDEN was a lifelong resident of Adair county, having served as sheriff of the county two different terms.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Becky JORDAN of Tahlequah; two sons, Chester and Jim CRITTENDEN, both of Westville. His wife preceded him in death less than a year ago.

SKILLERN

Lee B. SKILLERN of Proctor, age 50 years, died suddenly at noon Tuesday following a heart attack.
Mr. SKILLERN had been a merchant at Proctor for a number of years and has many friends far and near who will be grieved to learn of his death.
Funeral services were held at the Proctor church Thursday afternoon, May 27, with burial in the Proctor cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lee B. SKILLERN, five children, Mrs. Billie SWANEY of Tulsa; John Edward SKILLERN, who is in the armed services; Louise, Maudie Jean and Harold Lewis of the home.

PROCTOR

Funeral services were held at the Proctor church Tuesday afternoon, June 1, conducted by Rev. Jim KETCHER, for Sam PROCTOR, age 56 years, who died at his home there after a several weeks' illness, Saturday May 29.
A farmer, son of Zeke Proctor, he had been a resident of that community all his life.
He is survived by his wife and several children.
Burial in the Proctor cemetery, under direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.

CHASE

Adair county has been made sad in the death of our well known and respected County Judge, W.L. CHASE, who died at his home here Tuesday evening, June 1, after a few hours' illness as a result of a heart attack. Although he had been in failing health the past few years, his death was a shock to the entire county.
Mr. CHASE was born December 29, 1880, in Izard County, Ark. He was admitted to the bar in U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Indian Territory on November 4, 1904; came to Westville in 1907 and has been active in Oklahoma Democracy since statehood, having practiced law in Adair county since that time. On June 5, 1939, he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of office of County Judge, made vacant by the death of Judge Harry WINSOR. This office Mr. CHASE held at the time of his death, having been elected to serve two terms.
He was married to Miss Lula PHILLIPS in 1909, and has lived in Westville since that time with the exception of a short time at Stilwell.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula CHASE, one daughter, Miss Ahnawake CHASE, who is employed at Pryor; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel DAVIS, Miami, Florida, and Mrs. George ORR, Slaton, Texas; one brother, W.A. CHASE, Tulsa, who suffered a paralytic stroke Thursday and his death is expected momently.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, pastor of the local Baptist church.
Burial was made in the Westville cemetery. Friends of the deceased and his family, which are numbered only by their acquaintances, extend deepest heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.

PHILLIPS

Arthur PHILLIPS, former Westville resident, and brother of Mrs. W.L. CHASE of this city, died suddenly Tuesday night at his hotel room in Tulsa, upon receipt of news of the death of his brother-in-law, Judge W.L. CHASE.
Mr. PHILLIPS, age 65, was born in Benton County, Arkansas. He came to Westville with his family in the early part of the century, but the past few years had lived in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sam EASTERLY of Tulsa; his mother, Mrs. M.K. PHILLIPS of Westville; two sisters, Mrs. W.L. CHASE, Westville, and Mrs. Cora WHEAT of Tulsa; one brother, Vest PHILLIPS, who is a patient in the Veterans Hospital at Little Rock.

TAYLOR

Samuel Summers TAYLOR, born July 28, 1926, was fatally injured near Pampa, Texas, Saturday morning, June 5.
Sammy, as he was called by everyone was an exception of a young man, liked and loved by all he came in contact with, on account of his friendly disposition.
He leaves his father, mother, aunts, uncles and a host of friends to mourn the passing of one so young and dearly loved. by Mrs. Lula SUMMERS, grandmother.

Sammy TAYLOR, 17 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam TAYLOR of Pampa, Texas, and grandson of Mrs. Lula SUMMERS of Westville, met an accidental death in a fall while on a construction job at Pampa, Saturday, June 5.
The body was returned here for burial, funeral services being held Wednesday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY.
Deep sympathy is extended the bereaved family.

June 18, 1943

CHASE

W.A. CHASE, age 75, veteran Tulsa Lawyer, and brother of the late Judge W.L. CHASE, died at his home in Tulsa, Sunday, June 13, following a heart attack suffered several days ago.
Funeral services were held in Tulsa Tuesday.

SPARKS

Despondant from ill health and worry over the death of his wife is thought to be the motive for M.R. SPARKS, age 69 years, to take his own life by shooting himself with a 12-guage shotgun Wednesday, June 9, at the home of his son, Carl SPARKS, near Paris, Ark.
Mr. SPARKS had been a resident of this community for 30 years, having gone to Paris, following the death of his wife March 14th, 1943, to make his home with his son.
The body was returned here by the Roberts Funeral Home and funeral services held at Dutch Mills, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, Saturday, June 12, with burial in the Dutch Mills cemetery.
He is survived by two other sons, nine brothers and sisters.

June 25, 1943

LAWRENCE

Word has been received here by relatives of the death of Mrs. George LAWRENCE who passed away at her home in South Gate, Calif., June 19, at the age of 71 years.
Mrs. LAWRENCE will be remembered here as Mrs. Jane CONRAD, having lived here with her family several years before going to California to reside. She was also a twin sister of Mrs. W.E. SWEET of Westville.
Mrs. SWEET's friends extend the most sincere sympathy in this hour of her great grief.

STROPES - MILNER

A double funeral service was held Sunday at the Rose Prairie Cemetery in Mays county, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, local Baptist pastor, for Clinton M. STROPES, age 40, and Charles William (Billy) MILNER, eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. T.E. MILNER of Watts.
Both the man and boy were drowned Thursday, June 17th, while attempting to cross the Illinois river at the John LUPER farm, near Little Kansas, Okla.
STROPES is survived by his wife and three children, his father, two brothers and one sister.
The child is survived by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. Roberts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROYSE

Funeral services were held from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. E.A. GOURD, Wednesday after noon for W.F. ROYSE, age 62 years, who died at his home north of town June 21, after a several weeks illness.
Mr. ROYCE is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Grover PALONE of Westville, and Mrs. Wily KELLY of Watts; one son, Riley ROYCE of Pittsburg, Kansas; one brother, one sister, and seven grandchildren also survive.
Burial was made in the City Cemetery.

July 2, 1943

JOHNSON

J.B. JOHNSON, Adair County Treassurer, of Stilwell, died Sunday evening in a Fort Smith hospital after a long illness.
Mr. JOHNSON had been a prominent public official, banker and business man since Statehood. He was the county's first superintendent of schools, later county clerk and was a director of the Muskogee Credit Productive association at the time of his death. He was cashier of the Guarantee Bank of Watts, and later became cashier of the 1st National Bank of Stilwell, which place he held many years. The treasurer's office has been closed pending the appointment of a successor, according to John A. ALBERTY, deputy treasurer.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Anne FOWLER and Mrs. Minnie KELLER, both of Stilwell, and Mrs. Lula HOMAN of Eufaula.
Funeral services were held in Stilwell Wednesday afternoon.

HOLLAND

Mr. and Mrs. Jim HOLLAND, Route 1, Watts, have received notice from the war department of the death of their soldier son, Sgt. William C. HOLLAND a prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines.
Sgt. HOLLAND became a prisoner of the Jap forces with the fall of Corregidor. He was with the Mexico 200th anti air-craft division.

MCCARTY

Dr. D.E. MCCARTY, who recently left Westville as a sick man, for his former home at Cashion, this state, passed away Monday night, July 12, Interment was at the McCarty family burial grounds at Cashion.
Surviving him besides his widow are two brothers, George B. MCCARTY of Little Rock, Ark., and Fred B. MCCARTY of Salina, Kansas.
Mrs. MCCARTY was in Westville, Saturday attending to business affairs of the late Dr. MCCARTY.
She will make her home at 569 Amsterdam Avenue, Atlanta, Ga.

DORE

Word has been received in Westville of the death of Mrs. Pat DORE, her passing away occured June 29, at Tuscon, Arizona. Interment was at the San Xeiver Memorial Park, Tuscon.
The pioneer citizens of Westville well remember Mrs. DORE and her husband. Mr. DORE was engaged in the mercantile business and a leader in civic affairs in Westville's embryonic years. He met a tragic death here in 1912. Mrs. DORE afterwards was married to a prominent citizen of Muskogee, but resumed the name of Mrs. DORE following a divorce.
She made Huntington Park, California, her home after leaving Oklahoma, until a two month's period at Tuscon, Arizona, preceding her demise.
Mrs. DORE is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Arthur WILSON, Huntington Park, California, and Mrs. Leota JONES, living in Ohio.

WALL

Funeral services were held Sunday at Evansville, Ark., conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, for Mrs. Maggie E. WALL, age 66, years, wife of L.P. WALL, local merchant.
Mrs. WALL died at the family home here Saturday, July 24, after a several months illness.
The WALL family came to Westville about a year and a half ago from Lincoln, where they had lived many years.
Survivors are her husband L.P. WALL and four brothers.
Burial was made in the Lewis Cemetery at Evansville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

GLENN

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Lincoln Saturday for Mrs. Bob GLENN, age 63, who died in Lincoln hospital Friday after a weeks illness.
She is survived by her husband, Bob GLENN, three sons, Leonard GRISCOM and Cage GRISCOM of Summers and Woodrow GLENN, in the U.S. Army; three brothers and one sister also survive.
Burial was made in Bethesda cemetery near Lincoln.

BARNETT

Funeral service was held Sunday at New Hope cemetery near Chewey for Joe BARNETT, who was killed in a truck accident near Ballard Saturday. The driver of the truck conveying milk with two friends with him lost control of the truck and a plunge from an embankment resulted, causing fatal injuring to Joe BARNETT, and injury to Jim REED who is in a critical condition in a Siloam Springs hospital.
Bill JACKSON sustained minor bruises from the accident.

HAMMER

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 10, at the Green church conducted by Rev. C.E. HARDY, for Nellie HAMMER, age 27 years, who died at her home in the Green community August 6.
She is survived by three sons, Leon, Dewey and Luther; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli HAMMER; one sister, eight brothers and many friends.
Burial was made in the Green Cemetery.

ALLISON

Funeral services for Miss Lou ALLISON, 57 years old, widely known maiden lady, and a resident of this community for the past 22 years, died at her home Sunday morning at 5 o'clock after a three year illness, was conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with the Rev. J.C. MORRIS, retired Methodist minister in charge, assisted by the Rev. Sanford WYLIE, pastor of the local Methodist church. Burial was in the Westville cemetery.
Miss ALLISON was born in the community east of Fayetteville, March 13, 1886. She came with the family from Prairie Grove, Ark., to Westville in 1920 and had lived here since, where she and her sister, Miss Myrtle ALLISON had managed and operated a dairy. She was converted at the age of 17.
Survivors include the mother, Mrs. C.R. ALLISON, of the home; five brothers, Fred ALLISON, postmaster of Westville, Bill ALLISON, rural mail carrier, Westville, Abe ALLISON, Stilwell, John ALLISON, Kansas City, and Russell ALLISON, Tyler, Texas; three sisters, Miss Myrtle ALLISON of the home, Mrs. Ruth ALBERTY, Westville, Mrs. E.L. BROWN, Sulphur, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

LIDLE

Arthur LIDLE, age 54 years, a brother of Mrs. C.P. CARRINGTON, died suddenly Monday at his home near Hulbert. Funeral service and burial was made at Cane Hill Tuesday.
Other surviving relatives, besides his sister here, are his widow, one sister and one brother.

STEWART

Funeral services were held at the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Prairie Grove Sunday for Mrs. Belle STEWART, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John HAUGEN, in Amarillo, Texas, Thursday, September 2, after a long illness.
The STEWART family were former residents of Westville. Her husband, the late Bob STEWART, being connected with the Rogers Wholesale Grocery Company at that time.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John HAUGEN, two grandchildren, other relatives include a brother, Dee ROLLINS of Westville.

HOLLAND

M.R. HOLLAND, age 81 years, died Wednesday morning, after an illness of several months, at the home of his son, Clayton HOLLAND, near Dutch Mills.
Mr. HOLLAND formerly lived in Westville, having moved to his son's home following the death of his wife here several years ago.
He is survived by five sons and three daughters.
Funeral services, which will be held at Dutch Mills, are incomplete, awaiting reply from his children who reside in California.
Surviving children are Mrs. Jennie HATCHET, Clovis, N. Mex.; George HOLLAND, Long Beach, Calif.; Ben HOLLAND, Bell, Calif.; Mrs. Alma CROCKER, Wilmington, Calif.; Earl HOLLAND, of the U.S. Army, located at Camp Arcadia, San Anita, Calif., and Mrs. L.C. VILLINES and Clayton HOLLAND of Dutch Mills and Robert HOLLAND of Westville.

BARTON

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. SANKEY, for Earl B. BARTON, age 57 years, who died suddenly at his home in Baron, Monday, September 13.
Mr. BARTON was born in St. Joe, Mo. The family had made their home near Proctor 24 years, having only recently moved to Baron.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

RECTOR

Mrs. Ola RECTOR wife of Lace RECTOR, died in the Bean Hospital in Lincoln, Tuesday evening after a weeks' serious illness.
Born October 19, 1902, she had lived her entire life here in Westville and community, a daughter of mr. and Mrs. Lee FOLSOM of this city. In 1923 she was married to Lace RECTOR, to which union four children were born, Eva RECTOR, who is employed in Tulsa, Thomas Lee, Junior and Carolyn Sue of the home.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, conducted by Rev. Arthur SMITH of Tulsa, with burial made in the city cemetery.
Survivors, besides her husband, children and parents, include four sisters, one brother, and many other relatives and friends.

His body was accompanied to Westville by his widow and daughter; his sister, Mrs. Tab WHITMIRE and son, and Mrs. T.A. HARMON.
Besides his widow and little daughter, he leaves to mourn his departure, his parents, one brother, Corp. Ray PHILLIPS of Camp Crowder, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Tad WHITMIRE, Bakersfield, Calif., Cletha and Bonny Ruth of the home, other relatives and a host of friends.
Burial was made in the Westville Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. C.E. HARDY, for Mrs. Bessie MCCLURE, age 63 years, who passed away at her home southeast of town Sunday, September 26, after an illness of several months.
She is survived by her husband. Burial was made in the city cemetery.

PHILLIPS

Funeral services were held from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. SANKEY, Tuesday evening for Richard Dean PHILLIPS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim PHILLIPS, born near Westville, August 3rd, 1916.
He was married to Miss Conley Elizabeth LITTLE, December 23rd, 1938. To this union was born one daughter, Felicia Dean. He was enployed by the Red River Lumber Co., in Westwood, Calif., at the time of the beginning of his fatal illness. He was taken to the University of California Hospital in San Francisco where he passed away

MCCOY

A tragic accident occured Tuesday when Memory McCOY, 56 years old of Watts, was dragged to death by a mule.
MCCOY was leading the animal, which became frightened, the rope being caught around the man's arm.
Funeral service was held Thursday. The deceased is a brother of Mrs. Clyde MORRIS

BRAND

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Cincinnati, conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, local Baptist pastor, for Mrs. Mary TUNNELL BRAND, who passed away at her home there at the age of 91 years.
Burial was made in the Union cemetery at Cincinnati. Immediate survivors are her brother, Jess TUNNELL, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Sam TUNNELL, with whom she lived.

ARMER

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mrs. J.H. BRIDGMAN, for William ARMER, age 63, who died Monday, October 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Perry MCCASSLIN, near Westville.
He is survived by four daughters and one son. The body was taken to Enid Monday, October 11, for burial.

DODD

Funeral services for J.T. DODD of this city were held at the Westville cemetery Saturday afternoon, under direction of Wasson Funeral home of Siloam Springs. Mr. DODD died in a Muskogee hospital last Thursday.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Iona MCCAULEY and Mrs. Opal RANKINS, both of Muskogee; and two sons, Homer and Everett, both of Westville.

LOGAN

T.M. LOGAN, age 82, a lifelong resident of Fayetteville, father of Robert R. LOGAN, passed away at his home following a heart attack early Sunday morning.
Funeral services were held at the Watson Funeral Home Tuesday morning, with burial in the Fayetteville cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Polly LOGAN; one son, Robert R. LOGAN, one granddaughter, Marion Elizabeth LOGAN; one sister and three brothers.

MORRIS

Word has been received here by relatives of the death of Arnold MORRIS and his three-year old son, who were killed in a car accident, in Van Cover (i.e.), Washington, on Saturday, October 16.
MORRIS, son of Oce MORRIS, had been employed in Washington only a short time, his wife and two children having joined the husband and father only a month before the tragic accident.
The bodies will be returned here for burial.

LEEPER

John L. LEEPER, 70 year-old, prominent business man of Stilwell for many years, died at his home Friday morning following a brief illness. Mr. LEEPER, who was engaged in an extensive real estate business, was the owner of the Leeper Abstract Company. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with burial in the Stilwell cemetery.
Mr. LEEPER was a resident of Westville a number of years ago and has many friends here who are grieved at his passing.

DODD

Mrs. J.T. (Statie) DODD, age 65, of Wetville, passed away at the home of her daughter, near Muskogee, Monday, October 25, after a short illness.
Funeral service was held this Thursday afternoon from the local Pentecostal Holiness church, with Rev. B.V. PENDLEY, pastor, officiating.
She is survived by two sons, Homer and Everett DODD, Westville; two daughters, Mrs. Ione MCCAULEY and Mrs. Opal RANKIN, both of Muskogee; one brother and one sister.
Burial was made in the City cemetery by the graveside of her husband, who preceded her in death by only nineteen days.

SMITH

It is with deep regret that we relate the death of Lige SMITH, who passed away at his home here Saturday, October 23, after an illness of over a year.
Born in Pineville, Mo., April 22, 1884, Mr. SMITH had lived in this community, with his family, for the past twenty-five years.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the local Pentecostal Holiness church, of which he was a member, Rev. J.H. BUNNELL, officiating, assisted by Rev. B.V. PENDLEY, pastor.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lily SMITH, three sons, Calvin of Westwood, Calif., Milton of Watts, Okla., and Charlie of Westville; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle STANLEY and Mrs. Ethel KETCHER of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Dona Belle GUTHRIE of Susanville, Calif. Fourteen grandchildren, his stepmother, three sisters and two stepbrothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Burial was made in the City cemetery.

TEMPLETON

Thomas R. TEMPLETON, age 62, died at his home near Westville, Wednesday, October 20th, after a brief illness.
Born in Cole County, Mo., he moved to this community in 1908.
Funeral service was held from the Roberts Funeral chapel Friday, conducted by Rev. SANKEY, pastor of the Baptist church.
He is survivewd by his wife, one son, Floyd TEMPLETON of Drumright; one daughter, Mrs. Virgil REDDEN of Ordway, Colo.; seven grandchildren; one brother and five sisters.

SELF

Funeral service for Roy SELF, 47 years old, who died last Thursday at his home near Westville, was conducted at Lincoln Friday morning by Rev. Stilman WHITELEY. Burial was in the Walnut Grove cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ora SELF and three children, Boyd, Elmer and Lester, of the home.

WOODS

Dent WOODS, age 78 years, died Tuesday morning at the home of his brother, Cal WOODS, north of town, with whom he had made his home the last four years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Weddington, Ark., conducted by Rev. Earl T. ODLE, with burial in the Weddington cemetery.
Besides the brother, he is survived by four stepchildren.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. T. DeWitt SANKEY, were held Wednesday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel for W.T. HARLIN, age 51, who died at his home northwest of town Saturday, November 6.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Leo HILL of Nebraska, Mrs. Mary E. BLACK, and Mrs. Wilma MULLINS of California, and Miss Vera HARLIN of the home; two sons George and Charlie HARLIN of California. Four grandchildren and one brother also survive, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

CULLERS

Mrs. Mary CULLERS, 85 years of age, mother of W.A. CULLERS of this city, died at the home of her daughter in Tulsa, Thursday, November 4.
Funeral service was held Friday at Rocky Comfort, Mo., the former home of the Cullers family.
Survivors beside the son here are five daughters and one other son.

Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. John H. BUNNELL, assisted by Rev. J.H. HOPKINS for Harry WILLIAMS, age 77 years, who died at his home here Friday night after a long illness.
Mr. WILLIAMS, a retired merchant, came to Adair county a number of years ago from Kansas City. He owned and operated a store and filling station at Watts before moving to Westville.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Harry WILLIAM; one son Leo WILLIAMS of Kansas City, and one daughter Frances, of the home.
Burial was made in the City cemetery.

FEDDIS

Funeral service was held Saturday morning at Wrights Chapel, under direction of Roberts Funeral Home, for Mrs. Mary FEDDIS, age 66 years, who died at her home following a cerebral hemorrhage Thursday, November 11th.
She was the wife of S.B. FEDDIS, and had lived in the Wrights Chapel community for fifteen years.
Burial was made at Dutch Mills.

BATES

Word has been received here by friends of the death of James H. BATES who died at his home in Dallas, Texas, early last week.
Mr. BATES, a veteran Tax Collector, was born near Cincinnati, Ark., educated at the University of Arkansas, and was admitted to the bar in 1895.
He was a son of the late J.L. BATES, who, with his daughter, Miss Nannie BATES, operated the Bates Hotel here for a number of years.
Survivors are his wife, one son, and one daughter. Two brothers also survive, C.O. BATES, Fullerton, Calif., and Dr. W.R. BATES Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

WEAVER

R.L. (Bob) WEAVER died at the home of Claude Maupins Monday evening, November 22, after a short illness.
Born in Winfield, Kansas., March 13, 1875, Mr. WEAVER had lived a number of years in Westville.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, conducted by Rev. John H. BUNNELL.
He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Willie DANIELS of Hulbert, Okla., and Emma WILSON, of Oakland, Calif.; four sons, Paul WEAVER, Hollis WEAVER and Rome ROSS, all of Westville, and Doyle WEAVER, San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, Charles H. WEAVER, Westville; five sisters, Mrs. O.A. GALLATIN, Westville, Mrs. B.H. MAHAN, Rogers, Ark., Alma SOUTH, Kansas City, Mrs. Oscar SKELLY, Humansville, No., and Mrs. Louise WHITTED, Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother and ten grandchildren.

BARE

E.M. BARE, age about 73, died Sunday in a Eureka Springs, Ark., hospital after a long illness. Funeral and burial was in Eureka Springs, Wednesday afternoon.
Born in Missouri, Mr. BARE had lived in Eureka Springs 40 or 50 years where he was engaged in the real estate business.
Among his survivors is a brother, Guy BARE of this city.

KENNEDY

J.E. (Jack) KENNEDY, age 67 years, a farmer living near Baron, died at the Bean clinic in Lincoln, Monday, November 22nd after having suffered a stroke of paralysis at his home on Saturday.
Funeral srvice was held Wednesday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. SANKEY, with burial in the Baptist Mission cemetery.
He is survived by seven children.

WELCH

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon in Watts, conducted by Rev. B.V. PENDLEY, pastor of the local Pentecostal Holiness church, for Mrs. Dovie D. WELCH, age 63 years.
Mrs. WELCH died at her home near Watts, Tuesday, November 30.
She is survived by several children. Burial was made in the Bell cemetery near Watts.
