Janetta was born on March 20, 1929 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Jim Lewis and Salina Mitchell. She attended school at Mt. View Country School in Eufaula. Janetta was a caring and giving woman who spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and raising seven children. When she worked outside the home as a cook or aide it was with the elderly or the youth. She was a member of the West Eufaula Indian Baptist Church and her belief was strong and she enjoyed sharing her faith. Janetta loved to read, watch movies, spend time working in her yard and being next to nature. A drive with her best friends just to look at flowers was a favorite past-time. Other hobbies were spending time with her six grandchildren, cheering on the Ironheads, where you couldn’t miss her very vocal, “Go! Go! Go!” and she wouldn’t miss watching an OU Sooners game! Janetta also loved to travel. While just traveling in a car, she would soak in the scenery. She was over 60 years old before she took her first airplane ride and soon became a pro, visiting film location sites across the United States. She became a regular visitor to Hollywood and had her fifteen minutes of fame as a movie extra and language consultant. She rubbed elbows with celebrities and movie stars. Her favorite hug came from James Garner. Janetta loved music and singing hymnals and singing in her Creek language. She never lost her love for Elvis Presley. Roses were always her favorite and today her family honors her by wearing shades of her favorite color: red.
