Virgel was born on April 27, 1929 in Rentiesville, OK to Spurgeon and Violet Hankins Reed and was the third oldest of five children in this family.
He attended Rentiesville High School and afterwards he moved to Kansas City, Missouri for a few years before moving back to Oklahoma to live in Oktaha. He met Georgia Mae Pease and they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they were married in 1949. Their union was blessed with four children.He joined Loving Mount Calvary Baptist Church in 1961 under the leadership of the late Reverend Houston and continued under the leadership of the late Dr. J. A. Reed, Sr., and presently, under the leadership of Reverend Gary Hall, Sr. He served the Lord faithfully as a Layman, sang with the "Sing Churchmen" and served on the Trustee Board until his health began to fail. Virgel loved his family and his church family. He didn't mind doing whatever was needed for his family or his church. He was a quiet and humble man.
He was employed at Hamilton Drug Store for three years; Coburn Optical for ten years; drove for Muskogee Public Schools for three years; Manhattan Construction and retired from First National Bank in Muskogee.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a granddaughter, Sabrina Hitchye.
Those that wait on the Lord and cherish his memory; his beautiful wife of 60 years, Georgia Mae Reed; a daughter, Jacquelyn King, Muskogee; three sons, Ronnie, Oklahoma City, Virgel Jr., Tulsa, and Bobby [Marsha], Muskogee; and a caravan of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.The Farewell Tribute will commence on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Reverend Gary Hall, Sr., Pastor, will preside.
Burial will follow in the Honey Springs Cemetery at Rentiesville, OK.
